Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsey Deck.
Hi Lindsey, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey to opening the studio really grew out of a love for movement and community. Fitness has always been an important part of my life, but I saw an opportunity to create something a little different in Dayton—a space that combines effective workouts with a welcoming, supportive environment.
When I started the studio, the goal was simple: build a place where people of all fitness levels feel comfortable showing up, trying something new, and challenging themselves. We offer a mix of barre, strength training, and dance cardio, which allows people to find workouts they genuinely enjoy while still getting stronger.
Over time, the studio has grown into more than just a place to exercise. It’s become a community where people connect, encourage each other, and celebrate progress together. Seeing members gain confidence, build strength, and form friendships has been the most rewarding part of the journey so far.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Like most small businesses, it definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Opening and growing a studio comes with a lot of challenges—from the logistics of running a business to building awareness in the community and helping people understand what makes our workouts unique.
One of the biggest learning curves has been wearing so many hats. As a studio owner, you’re not just focused on fitness—you’re also handling marketing, operations, scheduling, and everything in between. There have been moments that required a lot of patience and problem-solving.
That said, the challenges have also been incredibly rewarding. Each obstacle has helped us grow and refine what we offer. Seeing the studio become a place where people in Dayton come to move, connect, and support each other makes all the hard work worth it.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Space Three?
Space Three is a boutique fitness studio in downtown Dayton that focuses on creating challenging, effective workouts in a welcoming and supportive environment. We offer a mix of barre, strength training, and dance cardio classes designed to help people build strength, improve endurance, and have fun while doing it.
What really sets us apart is the sense of community. Our classes are intentionally small so instructors can provide guidance and encouragement, and members get to know each other. It’s not uncommon to see people meeting up outside of class, supporting each other’s goals, and forming real friendships.
We’re also proud to offer workouts that are accessible to a wide range of people. While the classes are challenging, they’re designed so beginners and experienced members alike can feel successful and continue progressing over time.
Brand-wise, what I’m most proud of is the culture we’ve built. We want Space Three to be a place where people feel comfortable walking in the door, where they’re encouraged to challenge themselves, and where movement becomes something they genuinely look forward to rather than something they feel obligated to do.
At the end of the day, we’re not just about fitness—we’re about helping people feel stronger, more confident, and connected to a community.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I think there’s always an element of luck in life and business, but I also believe a lot of what people call luck is really the result of persistence and being willing to take a chance. Opening a studio is a big leap, and there are so many factors you can’t control. Timing, the right people walking through the door, and community support all play a role.
I do feel very fortunate to have built something in Dayton where people genuinely show up for each other. The members who have supported the studio, brought friends, and helped create such a positive environment have made a huge difference. In that sense, I feel very lucky to be surrounded by a community that believes in what we’re building.
At the same time, running a small business requires a lot of resilience. There are always challenges and unexpected moments along the way, but those experiences also push you to adapt, learn, and keep moving forward.
