Today we’d like to introduce you to Destiny Smith-Milner.

Hi Destiny, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hi, I’m Destiny Smith-Milner, owner and co-founder of Social Sitters LLC, an Ohio based event child care company.

My background is rooted in over 13 years of experience in the child care field. I’ve worked in daycare administration, taught in early childhood classrooms, developed preschool programs for local recreation centers, and spent several years serving as a career nanny for private high-net-worth families.

Working inside those private homes truly shaped my standards. I learned what quality care looks like behind the scenes, the importance of partnering closely with parents, and how much trust families place in the people caring for their children. That experience set the foundation for everything I do today.

In 2018, my co-founders and I saw a gap in both the child care and event industries. We recognized that event hosts wanted the freedom to enjoy “kid-free” celebrations, while parents still needed quality care they could feel confident about. So our vision became to bridge that gap.

Social Sitters started small, providing on-site care at events, just a room away. What began as a simple idea has since grown to support hundreds of events and thousands of families across Ohio. Today, we are known for creating safe, engaging environments for children while giving parents true peace of mind.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been the smoothest road, and I’m sure every entrepreneur can relate in some way. For us, every event comes with its own set of challenges; a different venue, setup, group of children, and unique liabilities. On top of that, there’s a lot happening behind the scenes that most people don’t see: planning, staffing, safety, supervision, and keeping the kids engaged. All of this has to come together seamlessly.

These challenges have been a learning experience nonetheless. They’ve pushed me to consistently refine our systems and build a service that runs smoothly and efficiently, all while keeping it fun, which is always rewarding to see in action.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Social Sitters, we specialize in on-site child care for all types of events, from conferences and corporate parties to weddings, receptions, as well as community and religious gatherings. We bring a full setup of play equipment, games, toys, crafts, and activities for children from 6 weeks to 12 years old. From sensory bins for toddlers to interactive crafts and games for older kids, every detail is thoughtfully planned so each child feels entertained, included, and cared for.
“Taking care of your littlest guests” isn’t just our slogan, it’s our standard. What sets us apart is our team and the experience we provide. We’re intentional from the start, carefully selecting caregivers who are not only qualified and experienced but genuinely love what they do. Even though our care setting is only temporary and we may never see these children again, our fantastic team has a gift for creating instant connections that leave kids feeling secure and parents confident their little ones are in excellent hands.

How do you define success?
For me, success is seeing something you’ve built become everything you set out for it to be.
Social Sitters started as a side hustle, and now it’s a business I’m truly proud of. I see success as creating something you can take pride in, something that reflects the choices you’ve made throughout the journey and allows you to live comfortably and confidently with those decisions. It’s about more than growth or numbers; it’s about fulfillment, pride, and knowing you’ve stayed true to your vision.
