Conversations with Marija Srdic

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marija Srdic.

Hi Marija, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started permanent makeup back in 2021. I was a senior in college and pursuing a medical path. I always had an interest in beauty – specifically makeup, and became really good at doing makeup on myself and for others in my teenage years. Microblading sparked my interest back in 2020, because I was always drawing my eyebrows on and I felt like a perfectionist when it came to brows; they always had to be perfect. I was newly learning about microblading when I began researching artists in my area to potentially have my eyebrows done. When I was researching for myself, I noticed there was a gap in the industry. I struggled to find work that felt truly aligned with the standard I was looking for, and thats when I realized that there was an opportunity to elevate the industry. I strongly felt like I could fill that space with something distinctive and unique. I started my microblading course while still in college, and became certified and licensed right at the same time that I graduated college. I immediately started my business and had everything running a month after graduation. The first 7 months were very tough. Many times I wanted to give up, but I had this almost delusional feeling that I just knew I would be successful if I just kept going. I kept reassuring my parents that I would be successful in just a matter of time. I set goals for myself, with deadlines, practiced positive psychology, and prayed to God. As time went by, every single one of my very specific goals became reality. I held myself to high standards, promised myself to always do the right thing, and always just genuinely cared for my clients. Since then, my business has always thrived, and all of that is thanks to God.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not always. There is always struggles and small bumps in the road, with any business. I am very much a type A personality. I try to do everything in the best way that I can to prevent any bumps. The beginning of my business was difficult, but once I figured it out, it only went up from there. Every challenge that came my way, I approached with composure and a problem-solving mindset. I always see struggles as opportunities for growth and refinement.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a permanent makeup artist specializing in cosmetic eyebrow tattoo techniques called Nano Brows, Nano Combo Brows, Ombre Powder Brows, and Lip Blush. I am known for creating absolutely beautiful eyebrows! Im super proud of my capability to create the perfect shape for each individual, and customize a brow that looks perfect for them. Im known for being versatile, super thorough, caring, and creating beautiful shapes unique to each individuals face. People tell me all the time that once they look at my instagram page and see all of my work, they are in disbelief that all of that work is mine and all of the transformations are so unique. What sets me apart from other artists is my eye for artistry, my thoroughness (part of my type A personality), and how much I care about my clients satisfaction, without compromising my professional standards.

How do you think about luck?
I don’t really believe in luck. I believe in blessings. I believe that limitations only exist in our minds. What you truly set your mind to, you can accomplish. I truly believe that when you place your trust in God and commit to doing the work with integrity and discipline, the blessings follow.
