Inspiring Conversations with Amr Abouelhana of Novalight Construction

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amr Abouelhana.

Hi Amr, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in an entrepreneurial family, so building businesses was part of my life from the very beginning. When I was five years old, my father started with an ice-cream truck. Over time, that small venture evolved into a car dealership. Along the way, our family also invested in real estate — buying, renovating, and renting homes. Watching those businesses grow taught me early on that entrepreneurship begins with vision, smart work, and the courage to take risks. It also gave me hands-on exposure to construction and the discipline required to see a project through to completion.

From a young age, I knew I wanted to build something of my own. My first venture was a private rideshare and tour guide business called Amr with the Rides, where I helped international students explore the U.S. I also experimented with launching online stores. Those early experiences taught me adaptability, customer service, and the fundamentals of running a business.

While earning my business degree, I taught myself e-commerce and developed skills in website development, branding, graphic design, and digital marketing. I became fascinated by how strong online strategy and branding can transform an idea into a thriving company.

That passion eventually led me to launch NovaLight Construction and Galaxy Splash Studios — ventures that reflect both my hands-on foundation and my creative vision.

To me, entrepreneurship isn’t about where you start — it’s about believing you can build something meaningful. If you’re willing to learn continuously, take calculated risks, and remain persistent, even the smallest idea can create real impact.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Entrepreneurship hasn’t been a smooth road. It’s filled with uncertainty, trial and error, and moments where you have to make decisions without all the answers.

One of my biggest challenges has been learning to navigate the unknown. Growth often happens while you’re in motion adapting, learning from mistakes, and adjusting quickly. Running multiple ventures taught me that resilience and flexibility are just as important as having a solid strategy.

There were times of doubt, financial pressure, and unexpected setbacks. But each challenge strengthened my problem-solving skills and sharpened my vision. I’ve learned that obstacles aren’t signs to quit their lessons to grow.

You don’t need everything figured out to start. You just need the courage to take the next step and the commitment to keep learning.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Novalight Construction?
Yeah, so Novalight Construction focuses mainly on residential renovations and property improvements. We work with homeowners who want to upgrade, remodel, or improve their spaces — whether that’s structural work, remodeling projects, or general improvements that add value to the home.

I grew up around construction and real estate, so this industry has always felt familiar to me. I saw early on what it takes to run projects properly — the planning, the budgeting, the problem-solving. That background definitely shaped how I run my business now.

I’d say what sets us apart is how hands-on and detail-focused we are. I’m involved in the process, and I make sure things are done right. We focus a lot on communication, sticking to timelines, and delivering quality work without cutting corners.

At the end of the day, it’s about doing solid work and standing behind it. That’s the standard we hold ourselves to. Our best work we are known for roofing and siding and home remodels.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
For me, it’s been about surrounding myself with other entrepreneurs who are already building and growing. Even if they’re in different industries, you can learn a lot from how they think and handle challenges.

You don’t always need a formal mentor — sometimes mentorship happens through real conversations and relationships. Stay curious, ask questions, and build genuine connections. That’s what has worked for me.
