Today we’d like to introduce you to Montanna & John Treitmaier & Thomas.
Hi Montanna & John, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Green World Lawn & Landscape started in 2019 when the two of us decided to take a leap and build something of our own. At the time, we had more ambition than equipment: just two push mowers and a weed eater. We spent our early days mowing large properties, working long hours, and saying yes to every opportunity we could. What we lacked in resources, we made up for in work ethic and a genuine desire to do quality work and take care of people.
John had always been passionate about landscaping, so the business began with basic mowing and maintenance. As word spread and clients started to trust us with bigger projects, we slowly expanded into more specialized services like hardscaping, seasonal clean-ups, drainage work, and full landscape installations. Even as the company grew, John stayed hands-on and focused on perfecting the fundamentals, making sure our original services stayed just as strong as the new ones.
My background is in business, and I stepped into the operations and customer-facing side of the company. In 2023, I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Business Management with a focus on Entrepreneurship, which helped us professionalize and scale what we had built. I now handle everything from customer communication and estimates to invoicing, design concepts, and marketing. Together, we balance each other, John in the field and me behind the scenes. All while sharing the same goal, building a company known for reliability, quality, and genuinely caring about the people we serve.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. One of our biggest ongoing challenges has been figuring out how to grow in the right way, especially when it comes to equipment, hiring employees, and building strong processes and procedures. As a growing business, there are always a lot of options and directions you could go, and sometimes the hardest part is choosing the path that feels both sustainable and authentic to who we are.
We’ve had big goals from the beginning, and often multiple ways to achieve them, which can be both exciting and overwhelming. Learning when to invest, when to slow down, and how to build systems that actually support growth (instead of just adding stress) has been a learning curve.
That said, we don’t shy away from those challenges. We’ve learned to embrace them as part of the journey, and honestly, we find a lot of fulfillment in figuring things out together. The problem-solving, the trial and error, and the constant improvement are some of the most rewarding parts of building Green World.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Green World Lawn & Landscape is a small, owner-operated landscaping company built on one core principle: exceptional customer service. From the very beginning, we’ve believed that taking care of people is just as important as taking care of their property. We pride ourselves on going above and beyond for our clients, being responsive, reliable, and making sure every job is done with care and attention to detail.
We offer a wide range of services for both residential and commercial clients, including full landscape design and installation, mulching, hardscaping, drainage solutions, snow services, and general property maintenance. Whether it’s a small refresh or a large-scale outdoor project, we approach every job with the same level of commitment.
As a small business, what truly sets us apart is the personal connection. Our clients work directly with us as owners, not through layers of management. We build long-term relationships, get to know our customers and their needs, and treat every project as if it were our own home. Brand-wise, we’re most proud of the reputation we’ve built for trust, consistency, and genuinely caring and that’s something we never plan to outgrow.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
We rely on a mix of practical tools and ongoing learning to stay organized and keep improving. On the business side, Jobber has been a huge resource for us in managing scheduling, estimates, invoicing, and customer communication. It helps keep everything streamlined and professional as we grow.
We also work closely with Cycle CPA for accounting and financial guidance, which has been invaluable for understanding our numbers and making smarter decisions as business owners.
For day-to-day work in the field, we love using the PictureThis app to quickly identify plants and diagnose issues, it’s a great tool for learning and for providing better recommendations to our clients.
In terms of books, Traction by Gino Wickman and Profit First by Mike Michalowicz have both had a big impact on how we run the business. They helped us think more intentionally about structure, goal-setting, and financial health.
Overall, we’re big believers in continuously learning, from tools, books, and real-world experience & using those resources to build a business that’s both sustainable and fulfilling.
