Today we’d like to introduce you to Rev. Dr. Stephen Swisher.
Hi Rev. Dr. Stephen, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I gave my first sermon when I was nine years old. I travelled with my parents, Dr. Lowell and Barbara Swisher, and lived around the world in Japan, the Philippines, Korea, the Panama Canal. We returned home to the United States when I was 16. I then went on through High School, College, Seminary and Graduate School. I have led Churches in size under 100 members to more than 6,000. I also boast a weekly television outreach and Podcast called Positive Living which aired on ABC, CBS and several Christian Networks. It also aired with Spanish Translation on Telemundo. Most recently I have preached for Church events and Conferences in Amsterdam, Germany. England and Belgium.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Co to jingle to be relevant and inspirational in an ever changing world can be challenging. So one must focus on their purpose and the end goals which is introducing people to faith in God and in themselves and making the world a better place. We like to put it this way “putting feet to our faith and reality to our religion.”
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am the Senior Pastor of St. John’s United Church of Christ, with over 1,000 members we are known as the Cathedral Church for Central Ohio. We have active ministries for every age group and a community food pantry, clothing drive and support groups.
For 5 years I also served as a Chaplain for the Ohio State Senate and I have opened the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives in prayer. I am also the author of the book “God’s Way to Good Health” published by the Martin Luther King Press and featuring a forward by Dr. Robert Schuller of the Crystal Cathedral and Afterword by Dr. Larry Dossey, MD
