Today we’d like to introduce you to Ty.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up around the trades. My dad has owned his own construction and remodeling business for as long as I can remember, so from a young age I spent my summers and winter breaks working alongside him. That experience gave me an early appreciation for craftsmanship, work ethic, and what it really means to stand behind your work.
After high school, I studied Construction Management in college. While I didn’t end up finishing the degree, I took what I learned and applied it in the real world. I later worked my way up to Operations Manager at a family-operated collegiate apparel and college bookstore. That role taught me the business side — managing operations, people, systems, and day-to-day decision-making — in a way I don’t think a classroom alone ever could.
Eventually, I realized I could combine both worlds: the hands-on construction experience I grew up with and the operational and leadership skills I developed in management. That’s what led me to build my own business. Today, my dad is a business partner, and I also work closely with an Amish craftsman. We each operate our own separate businesses, but we collaborate almost every day. That setup allows us to maintain independence while working together to deliver high-quality workmanship and consistent results.
The business has grown through relationships, trust, and pride in the work. I focus on doing things the right way, communicating clearly, and treating every project as if it were my own home. That foundation — built from family, experience, and collaboration — is what continues to guide where I’m headed.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, and I don’t think most worthwhile paths are. Like a lot of small business owners, I’ve had to learn through trial and error — figuring things out as I went while still showing up every day and delivering for clients.
One of the biggest challenges was transitioning from being hands-on in the work to also managing the business side at the same time. Learning how to price jobs properly, manage time, handle scheduling, and make smart long-term decisions while still doing quality work was a steep learning curve.
Another challenge was growth. Saying yes to too much early on can stretch you thin, but turning work down is hard when you’re building something. I had to learn when to slow things down, tighten systems, and focus on consistency rather than just volume.
Balancing business ownership with family responsibilities has also required intention and discipline. It’s forced me to be more organized, communicate better, and hold myself accountable in a way that’s made both the business and my personal life stronger.
Looking back, those challenges shaped how I operate today. They pushed me to build better processes, surround myself with the right people, and stay focused on doing things the right way instead of the fast way.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Elite Maintenance Building & Remodeling?
My business provides residential construction, remodeling, and property maintenance services, but what really defines us is our willingness to help no matter the size of the job. From larger projects like decks and renovations to smaller repairs, we show up and take the work seriously.
A lot of our growth has come from small jobs that other companies overlook — fixing a window, installing a doorbell, replacing a loose piece of siding, or taking care of a repair that’s been ignored because it “wasn’t worth the time.” We believe those jobs matter just as much, and we treat them with the same level of care and professionalism.
What sets us apart is reliability and accessibility. When someone calls us, they’re not brushed off or told it’s too small. We’ll come out, look at the issue, and give an honest assessment. Homeowners want a company they can trust for anything, not just major projects, and that’s the role we aim to fill.
We’re known for clear communication, realistic expectations, and standing behind our work. Much of our business comes from repeat clients who first called us for something minor and stayed with us because they felt respected and taken care of.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud that our name has become associated with dependability. People know they can call us, get a response, and have the work done the right way — without pressure or excuses.
What I want readers to know is that we’re focused on being a long-term solution. Whether it’s a quick fix or a larger remodel, we want to be the company people feel comfortable calling first — and calling again.
What were you like growing up?
I grew up in a blue-collar family where hard work was just part of life. If I wasn’t working with my dad, I was at school, playing sports, or tackling a list of chores he’d leave on the kitchen table. Sitting around wasn’t really an option, and that mindset shaped who I am.
Sports were a big part of my childhood. I played just about everything — cross country (even though I didn’t have the build for it), baseball, basketball, and lacrosse. Sports taught me discipline, teamwork, and how to stay focused under pressure.
Personality-wise, I’ve always had a quieter, steady demeanor. I don’t show stress outwardly — I focus on solving the problem and moving forward. In a past management role, I was once told it was hard to tell how serious an issue was with me because I didn’t react emotionally — the problem would just get handled. I’ve always seen that as a strength.
Today, as a husband and father of four, I understand the workload it takes to balance family, work, and responsibility — especially with a wife who has a demanding career as a nurse. That same work ethic and calm approach continue to guide how I show up, both in business and in life
