Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Morris.
Hi Courtney, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My passion and love for balloon décor started over six years ago when my son was born. I remember scrolling Pinterest for first birthday themes and party décor ideas when he was only a couple of months old—I couldn’t wait, haha! We ended up doing a “Spooky One” themed first birthday party, complete with balloons and decorations, and I was instantly hooked. I laugh now when I look back at where I started compared to where I am today.
As the years went on, I got better at making balloon arches and started creating them for friends and family for their special events. The idea to really turn this into something special and formally make it a business came when people at my day job started asking me to do balloons for their kids’ parties. At first, I was hesitant to branch out, but my mom was always my biggest fan and constantly encouraged me to start a business. I worried about balancing it all while raising my own little kids and working full time as a social worker, which can be demanding at times. I also work at Direction Home, an agency that serves older adults and individuals with disabilities in our community. I help coordinate services so people can remain in their homes and avoid nursing homes whenever possible.
As I took over the balloon decorations at more and more events last year, I finally made the decision to officially register my business as an LLC in April of 2025. I’m so grateful to have such an amazing support system and so many returning clients. It truly doesn’t feel like work when you’re doing something you love, and for me, that’s helping people create beautiful memories through amazing balloon décor.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s always a learning process, especially when starting a business. I’ve learned along the way what works and what doesn’t, particularly during installations. Installs can be stressful, especially when a venue allows very little setup time before an event. I’ve learned to prep as much as possible ahead of time so I’m ready to go once I arrive—because believe me, things don’t always go as planned!
Luckily, creativity is my strong suit, and I’m able to adapt when the pressure is on. I should really say we, because my husband is my wingman. There have been times when he’s had to run out and grab something mid-install or improvise, but it always works out in the end. Every time, I still amaze myself with how beautiful the final displays turn out.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are a balloon business that specializes in custom backdrops and balloon garlands. We build our backdrops using insulation foam board or wood, and we love collaborating with our clients to truly bring their vision to life. What makes me most proud of my business is the trust and satisfaction of my clients. I’ve had many customers come back and use me multiple times, and that truly makes me feel like I’m doing something right.
What does success mean to you?
For me, success is knowing a client loves my work and leaves happy—that’s when I feel I’ve truly succeeded.
