Today we’d like to introduce you to Joanna Scholle.
Hi Joanna, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I first picked up a camera when I was twelve, growing up in a small town in Poland, and I’ve been telling stories through photographs ever since. What started as curiosity quickly became a way of seeing the world—paying attention to quiet moments, emotions, and the beauty in everyday life.
I went on to attend photography school and officially completed my education in 2015. Shortly after, I moved to the United States, eventually settling in Ohio, where I built both my life and my business from the ground up. In 2019, I launched Joanna Scholle Photography, focusing on weddings, couples, and families—work rooted in connection, authenticity, and emotion.
Becoming a mother further shaped the way I photograph. It deepened my sensitivity to fleeting moments and reinforced my belief that the most meaningful images are the ones that feel honest and lived-in. Today, my work blends documentary storytelling with an editorial eye, creating timeless images that feel natural, warm, and deeply personal.
Photography has been a constant thread through every season of my life, and I feel incredibly grateful to continue telling stories—both big and small—for people who value connection as much as I do.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road—and I think that’s true for most creative journeys. Starting over in a new country came with its own challenges: building a business from scratch, finding my voice in a new market, and learning how to balance creativity with the realities of entrepreneurship.
There were seasons of self-doubt, slow growth, and moments where I had to learn to trust my work before anyone else did. Later, navigating motherhood while running a business brought a new set of challenges—time, energy, and learning to give myself grace during quieter seasons.
Each struggle, however, helped shape the way I work today. They taught me patience, resilience, and the importance of staying true to my vision. Looking back, those difficult moments weren’t detours—they were the foundation that allowed me to build something meaningful and lasting.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Joanna Scholle photography llc?
Joanna Scholle Photography focuses on weddings, couples, and families, with an approach rooted in connection and storytelling. My style blends documentary moments with an editorial eye, creating images that feel natural, warm, and timeless.
What sets my work apart is the experience I create—one where clients feel comfortable, seen, and free to be themselves. I focus on real moments rather than trends or overly posed images, capturing stories in a way that feels honest and meaningful.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of building a business that values intention and authenticity, creating photographs that allow people to relive their most important moments for years to come.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I’ve been incredibly lucky to have support along the way, even if much of this journey was built independently. My family has always been a steady source of encouragement, especially during the early years when belief mattered more than certainty.
I’m also deeply grateful to my clients, who trusted me with their stories before my brand was fully established. Their word-of-mouth support and continued trust played a huge role in growing my business.
Finally, the creative community—other photographers and small business owners—has been invaluable. Whether through shared knowledge, honest conversations, or quiet encouragement, that sense of community helped me stay grounded, inspired, and confident in my path.
