Daily Inspiration: Meet Amanda Adams

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Adams.

Hi Amanda, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I first became interested in rescue in 2016 after losing my mother whom I had cared for full time through her illness. It was a total accident – I saw a Facebook post begging for fosters and the rest was history. I developed an intense interest in kittens and jumped right in, learning everything I could about kitten care and moving into bottle babies, and then sick and injured and taking harder and harder cases, staying interested. And seeing the full circle of need around the issues of community cats and their caretakes in our community. I learned about fundraising and finding donors, and I learned about protocols and working with volunteers. I discovered a love for sharing my knowledge and train and mentor people all over my region.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The need for help with our cat issues locally is a complex one, and it required a multi-pronged approach from the start. While I had intended to be a mainly TNR group (hence our name), Within 2 weeks we already had a burgeoning foster program, had started our cat food pantry, and were making veterinary connections to be able to take sick and injured strays to the vet. That is a lot of planning and maneuvering to all get into place at once when you are starting a new organization.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Since our inception in August of 2023, we have intaken 381 cats. We have distributed 8081 lbs of cat food. We have TNR’d 439 cats. We have assisted dozens of broken bones and FIV and severely sick and emaciated cats. All 100% donation driven!

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
I’ve learned I am capable of so much more then I thought possible. I have learned that we have an amazing community of folks that all want to help and support us in an absolute myriad of ways. I’ve learned an organization runs best with the right people in the right seats (and that I am not at all always the right people for every seat).I’ve learned that people who feel appreciated and valued are happy and stay longer and continue to share their unique skills and insights. I’ve learned to trust my instinct and to own when I make mistakes.
