Nicole Bruckman shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Nicole, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Painting while watching a good show!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am an artist, curator, mother, and animal lover from Cleveland, Ohio. I began persuing my love for art at a very young age, and went on to attend Columbus College of Art and Design graduating with a BFA in Illustration in 2000.
After graduation I began work as a freelance illustrator and designer, later moving to Los Angeles, and began showing with galleries as well as curating shows. It was there that I adopted my first pitbull and became an advocate for the breed. After having my second child in 2017, I moved back to North East Ohio and currently work as a gallery manager at River Gallery paint whimsical animal portraits.
My paintings are inspired by the bond that exists between humans and animals, my relationship with my own rescued pit bulls, I strive to present each dog as an individual, unique and special. I try to express their personality by portraying them in playful and slightly fantastic situations.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
An artist! Always an artist!
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
After having my second child it was tough to find the time or energy to keep painting for a while. After moving back to Ohio to be closer to family when my son turned one I was able to find opportunities.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My kids and Animals!
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
