Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Rachel Wynn

We recently had the chance to connect with Rachel Wynn and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning Rachel, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What is a normal day like for you right now?
A typical day for me starts early. I wake up around 6:00 a.m., and the first thing I do is pray. That quiet time really centers me before the day gets busy. After that, I review my schedule for the day—client appointments, any meetings, and personal tasks—so I know exactly what my priorities are and where I need to be mentally and physically.

Once I’m ready, I help get my nieces to school and drop them off, which is an important part of my morning routine and family role. From there, I head straight to the salon and usually arrive by about 9:30 a.m. When I walk in, I take a few minutes to organize my station, update my to-do list, and make sure I have everything I need ready for my first client.

The core of my day is spent taking clients—providing services, consulting with them about their beauty needs, and making sure they leave feeling confident and taken care of. Between appointments, I check in with my schedule to stay on track, return messages, and update any notes or follow-ups I need to remember.

Some days also include restocking and supply runs. I’ll stop by places like Sephora, Ulta, or Cosmo Prof to replenish products, explore new items, and make sure I always have quality tools and supplies on hand for my clients. It’s part of how I stay current and keep my kit fully stocked.

At the end of the day, I like to close things out intentionally. I review my calendar for the next day, confirm appointment times, and transfer any unfinished items from my to-do list so nothing falls through the cracks. That way I end the evening feeling organized and prepared, and I can start the next morning focused and ready to go.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?

My name is Rachel “Rai” Wynn, and I’m a cosmetologist, makeup artist, licensed beauty instructor, and the founder of several growing beauty brands. I’m the owner of Rai Wynn Beauty, a beauty service brand built on enhancing natural confidence through expert makeup, hair, and nail artistry. I also created OMAI Beauty, my own cosmetics line that features thoughtfully formulated products like our Pucker Up High Shine Gloss and Skin Balance complexion system. On top of that, I run Thee MakeUp Room, a luxury glam studio experience designed for walk-ins and clients who want high-quality beauty services in a modern, elevated environment.

What makes my work unique is that I don’t just “do beauty”—I create full experiences and long-term value for clients and other beauty professionals. My journey started with a passion for empowering women through transformation, and over the years it has grown into a multi-brand ecosystem focused on excellence, education, and innovation. I’m deeply committed to mentoring other beauty pros, teaching them how to build profitable businesses, and integrating technology and AI into their branding and daily operations.

Right now, I’m working on expanding OMAI Beauty’s product distribution, refining formulas, and building digital tools and courses that help beauty professionals use AI to streamline their content, marketing, and client workflows. Every part of my brand is rooted in creativity, service, and helping people feel beautiful—inside and out.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
I would have to say my Dad. He was such a hard worker. He served on his job with Duke Energy for over 40 years, and went through every transition with them, from when they were CG&E, CINERGY, then ending with Duke. He also owned multiple properties as a landlord and any side hustle job you can think of. I saw him go to work sick, well, all the things. He truly set the standard and I can say I am very much like him in those ways. I never take a day off , and I love what I do so it helps that I never have to feel like I am working,

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Wow this is such a great question. I would have to say suffering has taught me that there is no such thing as hitting rock bottom. Often times we suffer because we are actually elevating and this new level can feel like the bottom because it is. It’s the bottom of a new level, that you must master. Suffering has always been my driving force to learn new things and figure things out. It’s helped me build my problem solving skills, and helps me determine what’s really important. It’s the force behind my focus. When things get hard in life I focus in on work. I take all of that energy and put it back into my business. I’ve learned that feelings fade but the actions you take while in those feelings can last forever.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
Well I have several projects near and dear to my heart right now but first and foremost finding a new location for Thee MakeUp Room is at the top of my list. We are growing and expanding and I’m looking forward to what 2026 has in store for us. I am also super passionate about our non profit project called Serving Face as we look to serve underprivileged youth in CPS, by providing services for prom and homecomings. So many of these young people are doing it all themselves and I want to help them create memories that will last forever. These two projects are life long projects for me. I am determined to find a way no matter how long it takes.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I really hope people tell a story of a fearless woman who accomplished everything she wanted and used all her gifts to build and heal communities. I hope they see how I fought in spite of, and beat every obstacle in front of me. I hope my story is one of an overcomer and a beauty mogul.
