Today we’d like to introduce you to Erin Simic.
Hi Erin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My business all started when I found myself too sick to work and unemployed. In 2022 I got Covid and never quite recovered in the process of figuring out what was going on. They also found out that I also had something called Elhers Danos syndrome which is a connective tissue disorder and causes severe pain and joint issues as well as many other symptoms.
I had on my own business, which was a drop in daycare for years and I found myself to sick to run it and within months of getting Covid, having to shut my business down. I also very quickly went from exercising and literally being able to do any normal activities to being told. I had to use a walker and then finally they have put me in a wheelchair.
I needed to figure out something I could do to continue to at least feel slightly useful and could already crochet so I started crocheting as well as circuiting items to sell in my free time when I was not in the hospital for treatments or tests
In the last three years, I have grown my business and now have a website as well as I am selling my items at Jade owl, coffee shop.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has not been the smoothest between my health issues, going up and down and getting my name out there for people to know what I am what I do what I make, but I think they’re finally as a light at the end of the tunnel.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I crochet many plushy, but my specialty is stockings, which I actually designed my own pattern and crochet in hopes that I will be part of someone’s holiday tradition. I also have a 3-D printer which I design items that a woman would want in hopes to fill another market.
