Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Zach Thomas.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
As a teenager I became very interested in exercise and weight lifting. My dad always had workout equipment in our basement growing up and it always peaked my interest. As a multi-sport athlete growing up, weight lifting eventually became a part of those sports and that is where I try started to fall in love with the process of weight lifting and exercise. Fast forward to my early 20’s and I became a full-time personal trainer while I was finishing my undergrad degree at The Ohio State University.
In 2011, I experienced a fairly significant lower back injury that eventually led me to a chiropractor for the first time ever as a 23 year old. That very first adjustment would be a life changing experience for me. Literally!
9 months after receiving that adjustment I was on campus at LIFE University in Marietta, Ga starting chiropractic school! Once I started I began to learn the foundation of what health truly is and where it comes from. My life long interest in health and wellness had turned into a calling to help as many children and families as possible live out there God-given ability to THRIVE.
The most recent iteration of that purpose is my office- LUMINOUS Chiropractic
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Smooth?!?! Ha.
Whatever the antithesis of smooth is – that’s what the road has been lol.
In all seriousness though. I believe challenges are always going to be there it truly comes down to how we choose to view and take action around them. Which, early in my journey as a chiropractor, was the true challenge.
I opened my first practice 4 months after graduating chiropractic school in October 2017. That practice was open and serving the Grandview/ Upper Arlington area for about a year and a half. In that time we not only faced professional challenges, but my wife and I also went through our first pregnancy loss. Fresh out of school, new business (hind site being 20/20, I was not ready to run), and a major blow like we experienced proved to be more than I could adapt to at that time. So, in May 2019 we closed the doors to that practice and I stepped into a role as an associate doctor.
God’s timing can be perplexing and awe inspiring all at the same time. As one door was closing and life felt as if I was at road block with nowhere to go the opportunity came to join Reichert Family Chiropractic in Reynoldsburg ( my hometown believe it our not). They were a fast growing practice that needed another doctor to help that growth continue. I was more than happy to step in and just be the chiropractor for a little while.
That little while turned into 5 1/2 years of serving in that practice and the community on the east side of Columbus. I am forever grateful for the opportunity that was given to me to join that practice at the most vulnerable time of my life. As we grew over the years at that practice my urge to wan to create started to re-emerge and that is what eventually led to my departure from Reichert Family Chiropractic in December of 2024.
A year and a half before that, in October 2023, my wife and I opened LUMINOUS Chiropractic in Granville where we live. During that overlap I split time between both offices. Serving at one while stoking the flame of growth and scratching the itch to create again. That soon turned into a burning desire to create something bigger for the community we live in. To serve those families at a higher level and be able to offer them more of what we had already started.
In January 2025, we stepped into full- time practice with LUMINOUS and started to really bring our dream to life!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
At LUMINOUS, we believe that there are many things that set us apart from or make us different than other chiropractic offices and even other healthcare offices.
From the way we view health and healing all the way to how we choose to communicate and interact with our practice members is “different.” With that being said, the biggest factor that sets us apart is the care we provide.
We desire to walk the journey of health with each person, each child, each family that walks into our office and help them realize that the challenges they may be experiencing are not the end of their story, but merely a page(s). That there is nothing “wrong with them” and they don’t need “fixing.” That they have the ability to heal, from the inside-out, with nothing more than their god-given abilities.
That ability is governed by our NERVOUS SYSTEM!
This is why we put our focus on the nervous system, talk about it so much, and use a model of care that revolves around it. It is where the root of challenges lie, BUT it is also holds the key to our health, healing, and well-being..
At the start of the journey with us (and along the way) we utilize INSiGHT neurological scans to assess and see how the nervous system is functioning, how Is it adapting, and where is it most stuck. This allows us to know exactly how to help. Not giving some cookie cutter plan, but rather creating YOUR PLAN based on YOUR nervous system!
As we go through that plan your nervous system is also guiding the care you receive. Things like
What kind of adjustment is needed?
Where?
How much or little input/ force?
Do you even need to be adjusted?
All of these metrics are looked at through the nervous system and how to best help it begin the process of change (i.e. healing/ restoration/ repair) specifically for that person.
When the focus is on caring for the PERSON through nervous system optimization it is far less about how symptoms are changing and more about the person and how THEY are changing/ healing/ evolving on their health journey.
Symptoms are a part of life and therefore are a part of the care people receive in our office, but they are not our focus. Thinking that we can go through life without them is a false reality. They are simply an intelligent response from the body based on the demands (or lack there of) being placed on it.
Acknowledging this, gives an opportunity to free ourselves from the constant revolving door of the presence or absence of symptoms and allows us to see the amazing perfection the body and nervous system have at creating and maintaining health.
It is this that truly sets us apart from the majority of chiropractic offices and healthcare offices in general. We desire to be the place where children and families come to feel seen, heard, and empowered in their health & life journey.
The number one thing we want your readers to know about us (and what we tell each and every person that walks into our office) is that YOU have the ability to change, adapt, heal, and THRIVE. Right now and always!
What does success mean to you?
Being in service to, leading, and impacting as many children and families lives, healing, and consciousness around health.
