We’re looking forward to introducing you to MaryEllen Reider. Check out our conversation below.
Hi MaryEllen, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day are beautifully chaotic — equal parts coffee, cuddles, and controlled multitasking. I start by hopping in the shower to wake up, then immediately grab my two morning must-haves: a strong cup of coffee and a tall glass of water.
Next, I get my daughter up and dressed for the day — which always turns into a mix of laughter, tiny negotiations, and the occasional toddler fashion debate. Then it’s time to feed our two dogs, Egg (our bulldog) and Watson (our pitbull mix), who are convinced breakfast is the highlight of their day.
While everyone else is happily eating, I open my laptop to scan emails and sketch out my schedule. I like to get a sense of what’s ahead — who I need to call back, what needs my attention first, and where I can carve out focused time.
And depending on the day, I’ll do my quick Kegel workout with my Yarlap System while sipping my coffee — it’s my little wellness ritual that keeps me grounded and connected to what I do.
It’s not always seamless, but that balance of family, work, and a few mindful minutes for myself sets the tone for everything that follows.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am the the co-founder of Yarlap. Alongside my dad, we have launched our Yarlap System. Our Yarlap System is the an award-winning women’s wellness device that is pioneering pelvic floor care. It is a gentle, FDA-cleared device that does your Kegel exercises for you, helping women strengthen their pelvic floor muscles for better bladder control, core stability, and sexual wellness.
What makes Yarlap unique is our blend of science, self-care, and empowerment. The Yarlap System not just about fixing leaks or toning muscles — it’s about helping women reconnect with their bodies confidently and comfortably. Yarlap bridges the gap between medical technology and everyday wellness. We spend every day breaking the taboo around pelvic health with humor, honesty, and kindness.
Yarlap’s mission is simple: to make pelvic floor health a norm. We want to help empower part of every woman’s wellness routine — just like skincare or fitness.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who taught you the most about work?
Having good mentors and guidance. I’ve been very fortunate to have many excellent mentors. My mother is a retired college professor, a Japanese Tea Master, and a wonderful role model. Whatever she does my mother always tries to do her best. She is empathetic, classy, and calm. In Japanese we say, “置かれ たところで咲きなさい” [blossom in your field]. Watching her gives me a map of how to lead with empathy.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There was never a time that I wanted to give up, but there have definitely been moments that felt incredibly difficult. Working in women’s health means constantly running into barriers — everything from misinformation about the pelvic floor to ads and keywords being censored. There’s also this larger cultural belief that sex is somehow separate from wellness and health, which I completely disagree with. The pelvic floor is the root of your health — it affects everything from core strength to intimacy — and it deserves to be part of the bigger wellness conversation.
At times, fighting those battles can feel like an uphill climb. But then we meet journalists, clinicians, and women who tell us how much this work matters. Those moments remind me that this isn’t just a business challenge — it’s a mission. And that makes giving up never an option.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
I think the public version of me is a variant of the real me, for sure! I do not show when I wake up at 2 AM in the morning from stress dreams or making a bottle for my child. I also do not shy away from showing those moments or discussing them. I do not put on a “public” version of myself when I post, though. I do what I would normally do or how I would normally discuss the pelvic floor muscles!
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What will you regret not doing?
Honestly, I don’t think I’ll ever regret bringing up pelvic floor muscles everywhere I go — and I really do mean everywhere. Baby showers, dinner parties, you name it. I’ll never regret telling women that tools like the Yarlap exist and that they can actually take control of their pelvic health.
Working in women’s health means constantly running into barriers — misinformation, censorship, and this outdated idea that sex is separate from wellness. I completely disagree with that. Your pelvic floor is the root of your health — it impacts everything from core strength to intimacy — and it deserves to be part of the bigger wellness conversation. Yarlap working with female athletes to postpartum moms, I do not regret any of this.
I’m proud that I built a company with my dad that challenges those myths and helps women feel confident in their own bodies.
