Heather McCormick shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Heather, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: When was the last time you felt true joy?
I feel true joy while sharing art with my students at The Beck Center for the Arts. I teach classes every Thursday evening and Saturday morning, and sharing art with children is always my happy, joyful place!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Heather, but I’m also known as Miss Heather, Mrs. Feather, Ms Heady, and so many more nicknames. I love creating and sharing art, I love live music, and I regularly practice ecstatic dance. I am Kind To My Mind By “Arting” All Over The Place. My company is called Kind Mind Art, and I make mixed media art pieces, and I teach on the visual arts team at The Beck Center for the Arts. I offer mixed media art pieces, intuitive henna, art classes, private lessons, group sessions, and more! I love adding color to everything from rocks to large murals.
My goal is to promote kindness, healing, and self-love through art. I love creating with the community at group events and even birthday parties. I believe that art has the power to heal and transform. Each piece of my art is made with Big Big Energy, and I always aim for radical acceptance and joy! I even have an exhibition coming to Cleveland this December called Icy “Jellyfi’: a story of radical acceptance. It will be featured this winter at the famous Grumpy’s Cafe in Cleveland.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
When I was a child, I was often told I talked too much or simply was too much. I most certainly do not believe this any longer. I know who I am, and I have worked far too hard on self-love to dim down for anyone or anything.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one kind thing to my younger self it would be one simple sentence. “Shine shine shine!”
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I will always be committed to helping young children to be kind not only to others, but to themselves.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I most definitely am doing what I was born to do. Sharing art with children and the general public is what I was born to do. I’ve always worked with children, but there is a completely different peace we find together when we’re all into a project. The confidence and catharsis that children build when engaging in art with me is like none I’ve ever seen growing right before my eyes.
