We recently had the chance to connect with Allison Steele and have shared our conversation below.
Allison, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
Meditation, reading, journaling, grounding my feet on the earth, getting morning light into my eyes, and a healthy breakfast with local food!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Allison Steele. I founded Optimal Wellness in 2020 during the pandemic. I am deeply passionate about guiding others toward a balanced, healthy, and joyful life. Like many yogis, I began my practice following my passion for physical fitness. As a dedicated bodybuilder, I spent years training with weights and working out in the gym, where I first discovered yoga. What began as a complement to my fitness routine soon became something much more. Yoga offered me not just physical benefits, but a profound way to reconnect with myself and cultivate balance. Through the practice of asana (postures), pranayama (breath-work), and dhyana (meditation), I developed a deep appreciation for yoga as both a physical discipline and a holistic way of life.
I completed my 200-hour yoga teacher training in April 2016 and I bring a dynamic, empowering approach to my teaching—infused with joy, compassion, and authenticity. In 2017 I had the opportunity to travel to India with 2 of my teachers and after an immensely positive experience, I decided to dig deeper into the practice of Svadhyaya (self-study). I have studied various styles of yoga and continually seek knowledge in all areas of wellness, movement, and longevity. With a deep commitment to helping others find sthira sukha—steadiness and ease—both on and off the mat, I aims to make yoga accessible and meaningful for every individual.
In addition to my yoga background, I am a certified NASM personal trainer, group fitness instructor, Pilates instructor, and circadian health advocate. I believe nature and sunshine are great teachers and guide us toward optimal health. Through my work, I strive to share a positive light and inspire growth within the global fitness and yoga community.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Going on a mission trip to Mexico with my father in 2007. It was my second time leaving the country and I was 13 years old. Stepping outside of my normal, first world, everyday life, was extremely life changing. It opened my eyes to the abundance I had back home. An experience I’ll never forget.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Believe in yourself and don’t care what other people think.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Whose ideas do you rely on most that aren’t your own?
My husband Andrew’s. He is a very critical thinker, has encouraged me to be open minded, and challenges me to question everything.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. When do you feel most at peace?
When my feet are in the sand at the beach, taking deep breaths, the sun warming my skin, and being completely present with someone I love.
