Meet Danny Perry of Perriott/Big Mikes/Tiffin Pedal/Your Town Pedal Company

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danny Perry.

Hi Danny, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
There are four brothers, Jason, Chad, Jon, and Danny, who work together on all our ventures. We have various enterprises including a real estate company, a restaurant, and a pedal pub business. We have always been passionate about the community so as opportunities presented themselves to make the town better and to contribute to its growth, we tried to seize on those whenever we had the chance. We have a ton of amazing business partners as well who all help to make the whole experience amazing.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Running any sort of small business is never a smooth road. We struggled early on with defining the roles that each of us was going to play and then adjusting in those roles as we started new ventures and the dynamics changed. We struggled at times raising capital, finding and keeping good people, systematizing our business, and keeping up with the rapidly changing business environment. Also, there is only one of us who works in the businesses full time so finding time and balance is always a struggle.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Our businesses really specialize in enhancing the community. The real estate side focuses on buying properties in need of improvement and renovating them. Big Mikes is a restaurant that focuses on good food and friendly service. The Tiffin Pedal Company brings a unique experience to the community and allows people to come together. Your Town Pedal Company looks to find other entrepreneurs who would like to start a pedal bike in their own town but don’t know how to get started.

Brand wise, I’m most proud of how we try to give back to the community. We are very lucky to be in a position to be able to help people and we try to do this in a personal way that directly affects families in the community. We do days of giving where we volunteer our time to raise money for local families. We often donate pedal rides to local charities. We do Santa stops during Christmas where we drive around the community and have Santa meet with kids right at their houses . We’ve often helped out struggling families with housing during tough times. We try to incorporate our family values and faith driven purpose into everything we do.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
There are four of us and only one works on these businesses full time. The other three have other full time jobs and work on these businesses on the side so our perspective is very unique.

Some advice I would have for people is to be fearless but not reckless. Stop thinking about taking action and just take action. It’s amazing how powerful that can be, Also, network and meet other business owners in the community. Your ability to network, be resourceful, and spread your message can make all the difference in growing your business. And don’t view other local businesses as rivals; view them as partners in your overall goal of making your community a better place to live. Give freely of your time and energy without expecting anything in return. I’ve found that people that do these things are successful in life as well as business.
