Conversations with David Myers

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Myers.

Hi David, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
David Myers – Artist & Gallery Owner
I grew up in Massillon, Ohio, a place that instilled in me a deep appreciation for passion, community and creativity. From a young age, I was drawn to visual expression—whether it was drawing, painting or photography, Art was always more than a hobby; it was a way of seeing and processing life.
I pursued my passion through formal studies and years of hands-on practice, gradually developing my own visual language. Over time, my work began to reflect not just aesthetics, but a deeper exploration of emotion, memory, and place.
Eventually, I made my home in Westerville, where I saw an opportunity to not only create but to cultivate a space for others to engage with art. Opening my gallery was a natural extension of that vision—a place where community, creativity, and conversation could come together. Through the gallery, I’ve been fortunate to showcase both my own work and that of other talented artists, and to connect with people who may be discovering art for the first time or returning to it after years away.
The journey hasn’t always been linear, but it’s been meaningful. I’m grateful for the people, places, and experiences that have shaped both my art and my path—and I look forward to what’s still to come.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not exactly- if it was, nothing would be learned. Experience is what you get when you don’t get what you want, and when you accumulate a lot of experience – it’s called wisdom. Like most artists and entrepreneurs, I’ve faced the challenge of balancing creativity with practicality—figuring out how to make meaningful work while also making a living and thriving. Opening and running a gallery brought its own set of hurdles: long hours, financial risk, and learning how to wear a dozen hats at once. But what’s made all the difference is the constant support I’ve had along the way. My family has been my foundation—encouraging me through adversity, believing in the work even when I questioned it myself. Great mentors – since childhood -have offered guidance and given me tools to navigate life. Friends and fellow artists have helped me stay inspired. And the community—both in Westerville and my hometown Massillon, as well as Chicago, San Diego and Los Angeles—has shown up time and again to support throughout the process. Every challenge has been met with people who reminded me why I started, and that continues to fuel the journey.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Create or collect, art connects us.

Art is a powerful tool for growth, healing, and self-expression. As an artist, I work in painting, mixed media, and photography—creating pieces that embrace moments, emotions, and special places. My work often lives between abstraction and realism, evoking a feeling without spelling it out.

Alongside my studio practice, I’m deeply invested in teaching and mentoring. I offer private instruction that blends fine art technique with personal expression. Students build a strong foundation in skills and principles while learning to trust their instincts, develop their voice, and gain the confidence to tell their story.

With formal training in both Fine Art and Art Therapy—and decades of experience shaped by exceptional mentors—I bring structure, empathy, and insight to my teaching. My own creative journey, shaped by both challenges and growth, is the foundation for an intuitive and compassionate approach.

What sets me apart—beyond my personal art and uniquely creative mentoring—is the combination of being a working artist, mentor, and gallery owner. The gallery isn’t just a place to view or collect art; it’s a space where people connect, grow, and feel seen. I’m proud to feature not only my own work, but also the work of emerging studio artists. Each piece reflects the belief that when art truly resonates, it becomes a reflection of who we are—our values, our vision, and our spirit.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
There are many ways to connect with and support our work—whether you’re an artist, collector, or someone who simply values creativity and community.
If you’re an artist—or have the desire to become one—I offer private instruction and mentoring that blends strong foundational training with a deep respect for personal expression. Our studio artists range in age from 6 to over 90 years old, each bringing a unique story, voice, and perspective. It’s never too early—or too late—to explore your creativity, build confidence, and tell your story.

If you’re a collector or someone drawn to original, meaningful work, I invite you to visit the gallery. We feature pieces by myself and our talented studio artists, each one reflecting personal growth, creativity, and connection. Our collectors are deeply valued and appreciated—their support and love for the work keep our creative energy flowing.

We also offer gift certificates for private instruction, mentoring, or gallery purchases—an easy and meaningful way to support the arts, share creativity, and empower someone you care about. Give the gift of art.

We’re always open to collaborations—whether with fellow artists, organizations, or individuals who believe in the power of art to bring people together. If you have an idea that resonates, I’d love to hear it.

And sometimes the simplest support is the most powerful: visiting the gallery, sharing our work, or encouraging someone to pick up a pencil or brush. Supporting the creative journey—at any stage or age—is what truly defines this space.
