Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Gergotz.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
A few years ago, I was in a troubling time of my personal life. I also did not enjoy my career in engineering. Then, an opportunity came up to create a business in one of my favorite hobbies and I decided to take a chance on myself. Here I am, six years later running a business I love while I do my best to provide my local neighborhood with some fun, but also fairly cheap, entertainment.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Try being a first time business owner and during your first few months, a pandemic changes the world. Besides the obvious changes from the pandemic, learning how to compete with big name retailers and the internet has been a constant challenge, yet not always a difficult one. I believe my biggest struggle has been my growth as an individual, unlearning negative things from my childhood that came back during adulthood.
As you know, we’re big fans of Gotz a Lot of Games. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We are a tabletop game store that provides fun and entertainment to our local neighborhood, as well as neighboring counties, and even states. We specialize in board games and miniature games/hobby painting, but also sell various trading card games, and role playing games as well as various accessories for all of the above. Our main mission is to be affordable entertainment for all of our customers and we do this by competing with online sellers and offering discounted prices on our products.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Go with your gut. Many times that has been the best advice I’ve given myself after proving it time and time again.
I wish I knew how to set proper boundaries when I started. Whether that be with employees or customers. Especially with the occasional customer, I wish I would’ve known how to be firm with someone and not be walked on.
