We’re looking forward to introducing you to Venus Kohler. Check out our conversation below.
Venus, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
That’s a great question! Our days are definitely busy and full of movement. I usually start my mornings around 6 AM, getting both the kids and myself ready for the day. I teach 4th through 6th grade, so I spend most of my day in the classroom. After school, it’s back home for family dinner, keeping the kids on track with chores, and spending some quality time together. Once the evening settles in, I catch up on customer emails, update social media, and then it’s time to bake!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! I’m Venus, the heart and hands behind Cakes Inc. For me, baking is so much more than just mixing ingredients — it’s about creating moments of joy and connection through every cake. Each cake is a labor of love, made completely from scratch and crafted to celebrate life’s special milestones while bringing people together. What makes Cakes Inc truly unique is that we’re based on a homestead where we raise our own chickens and grow edible flowers (seasonal, hopefully a greenhouse for the winter), which we use to decorate our cakes. We’re excited to expand our homestead into a farm stand offering fresh baked goods and eggs. My goal is to continue using natural, wholesome ingredients and practices in every part of what we do.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
I think my family and my mentors saw the potential even before I did. They encouraged me to do what I did best and keep working at it.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Life doesn’t take the path that you imagined, but it is still all good.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
Homesteading, farming, and real food — our family’s heart is deeply rooted in the belief that self-sustainability and a connection to the land truly matter. We believe in knowing where our food comes from, growing it ourselves, and creating with intention. That’s why Cakes Inc isn’t just about baking — it’s about going back to the basics. From using our own farm-fresh eggs to decorating cakes with edible flowers we grow right here on our homestead, every detail reflects our values. We are currently working toward expanding into a small farm stand, where we’ll offer fresh baked goods and eggs, all made and gathered with love. It’s about nourishing both body and soul, and sharing that goodness with our community.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Absolutely! Giving my best is what matters because it makes me feel good inside knowing I am giving it my all.
