Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Bowers.
Hi Amber, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey into holistic health and healing comes from both personal and professional experiences. I have always had a passion for helping others and an interest in psychology. My husband and I have lived in Ohio, Tennessee, and Michigan, and for over 10 years, I’ve worked as a mental health counselor in various settings, including community mental health, inpatient care, and outpatient programs for active-duty military, eating disorders, and more. Throughout my career, I’ve often been struck by how the medical system falls short in truly supporting patients in their healing.
I’m no exception to this. After having mono in high school, I’ve yet to wake up feeling rested. My fatigue has varied over the years, and at times, it’s left me feeling completely hopeless. As a teen, I was misdiagnosed with depression and prescribed antidepressants and anti-anxiety medications. Later, I was diagnosed with idiopathic hypersomnia—essentially, unexplained fatigue. I completed a Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT), where patients take five naps, each separated by two hours, after a full night of sleep. It took me an average of five minutes to fall asleep during every nap, and when the doctor called to review my results, I was told, “Well, you are very sleepy.” The provider prescribed stimulants and sent me on my way.
I proceeded to seek out support from functional medicine providers and aside from running labs and putting me on supplements that didn’t have any impact, they didn’t pursue anything further. This often left me questioning my own reality, and after years of searching for answers, I felt abandoned by the healthcare system. So, I decided to dive deep and explore every possible path in an attempt to heal myself and, in turn, better help my clients. This journey led me to embrace more holistic health choices for myself and my family, along with other forms of treatment such as Applied Kinesiology (AK), Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Quantum Neurology (QN), Lebowtiz, Neuro Emotional Technique (NET), Contact Reflex Analysis (CRA), and more.
Thus, Bowers Counseling and Wellness was born. The more I learned in my personal journey, the more I realized what was missing in the treatment I provided to my clients. My practice reflects my deep belief in the body’s ability to heal itself and the importance of treating the whole person.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all, but I’m a firm believer that nothing worth having comes easy, and my journey is no exception. Along the way, I’ve faced both personal and professional challenges that have shaped who I am today. I’ve dealt with my own health struggles over the years, which taught me resilience and the importance of self-care. At the same time, balancing work and personal life has been an ongoing challenge. I started building my practice while working full-time at another agency, raising three young children, and supporting a husband in law enforcement. There were many late nights, moments of doubt, and sacrifices made. But each struggle helped me grow stronger, more focused, and deeply grateful for the progress I’ve made.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Bowers Counseling and Wellness ?
I’m a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in Ohio, a Wellness Coach, a Certified Neuro Emotional Technique (NET) Practitioner, and an Eating Disorder Specialist. I’m also trained in Contact Reflex Analysis (CRA) and Creative Emotional Wizardry (CEW), and I integrate concepts from Internal Family Systems (IFS) into my work. I see clients both in person at Salty in Chardon, OH, and virtually across the globe.
My approach is holistic and centers on treating the whole person—mind, body, and spirit. What often sets my work apart is that I use muscle testing as a form of biofeedback to guide the therapeutic process. This technique, combined with the modalities I’ve trained in, allows me to connect the dots in a way that’s more effective and efficient than any other approach I’ve used. I also incorporate tools such as NET homeopathic sprays, VerVita essential oils, and Lotuswei flower essences to support the body’s ability to continue processing and healing outside of sessions. It’s deeply rewarding to witness the transformation that occurs when clients experience this level of insight and healing.
Typically, individual sessions run 50–55 minutes. I also facilitate a 90-minute group therapy session once a month in the salt cave at Salty, where I incorporate NET in a supportive, shared healing environment. It’s a powerful and unique experience that combines emotional release with the natural therapeutic benefits of halotherapy.
So what does this look like in real life? It looks like helping someone uncover that their extreme fear of fire is rooted in generational trauma from a great-grandparent who witnessed one. Or helping someone understand that their insomnia stems from feeling vulnerable and unprotected in childhood. Sometimes it’s identifying that recurring physical symptoms, like vomiting, are tied to the anniversary of a loved one’s passing—or that deep fatigue is linked to constantly feeling energetically drained by others.
As a therapist, I’d describe myself as empathetic, compassionate, and real. I don’t sugarcoat things in session, but I do meet my clients with honesty, warmth, and—when appropriate—a little humor. If you’re curious if NET may be therapy for you, I encourage you to reach out for a free connection call to learn more.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Yes, my biggest advice is: jump, and the net will appear. I put off leaving my full-time job much longer than I needed to out of fear and uncertainty. But the moment I finally took that leap, my practice began to grow in ways I never expected. Sometimes, the biggest breakthroughs happen when we step out of our comfort zone and trust that we’ll figure it out along the way.
