Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Heasley, PT, DPT, PCES.
Hi Kimberly, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always loved sports—especially those that involved running. Growing up on a small farm in rural western Pennsylvania, I ran everywhere I went. By middle school, I joined the track team, and throughout middle and high school I enjoyed competing in sprints, relays, hurdles, and the pole vault. The pole vault eventually took me to Division I college track at Kent State University.
During my freshman year, after two months of intense conditioning and training, I fell during our very first pole vault session and tore my ACL, MCL, lateral meniscus, and medial meniscus. The rehabilitation process was long and challenging—an experience I would never wish on anyone—but it sparked my interest in becoming a physical therapist. I went on to complete my bachelor’s degree in exercise physiology at Kent State, along with earning an individual conference title in the pole vault, contributing to five team conference championships, building lifelong friendships that have now lasted over a decade, meeting the person who would later become my husband, and developing a lifelong mentorship with my coach, who became one of my closest friends.
After my time at Kent State, I attended Slippery Rock University to obtain a Doctorate in Physical Therapy. While there, I stayed very active but sustained a back injury that required surgery to remove a disc fragment and relieve nerve pressure. Once again, the rehabilitation process deepened my passion for physical therapy. I was especially motivated to succeed in my rehab—I was getting married six months after surgery and wanted to make sure my husband could “dip” me during our reception entrance. (And he did!)
Following graduation, I began my career at an outpatient orthopedic clinic and loved it. Over time, I worked in a variety of clinics, including four years as a school-based PT. While I valued those experiences, I still felt something was missing. With encouragement from my husband (who will tell you he had been urging me for years), I took a leap of faith. Just one week after our initial conversation, KineticPro Health and Wellness LLC was born.
This December, KineticPro will celebrate its third anniversary. Owning my practice has given me the freedom to treat patients the way I believe best and without insurance restrictions, while also allowing me to be present in my most important role—being a mom to our two children.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My professional journey has been relatively smooth, yet I am continually motivated to strive for more—seeking opportunities to help more people, expand my knowledge to better serve those I treat, and always pursuing the best possible outcomes for everyone in my care.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a physical therapist in private practice, and as a solo practitioner, every patient works directly with me during each session. I value my patients’ time and give them my full attention—I never split sessions between multiple people. I am proud of the care I provide: the first visit includes a thorough evaluation, initial treatment, and the start of a personalized home exercise program. Follow-up visits typically emphasize hands-on manual therapies that patients cannot do on their own—such as soft tissue mobilization, dry needling, cupping, or joint mobilization—while I also regularly update corrective exercise programs to complement each patient’s current fitness routine. Many individuals also choose to see me for “maintenance therapy” or preventative care to avoid injuries, prevent symptom recurrence, and keep their bodies performing at their best.
I specialize in orthopedic care and treat all joints—from the neck to the ankle, and even the jaw. In addition, I hold a Pregnancy and Postpartum Corrective Exercise Specialist certification, allowing me to provide focused care for women during and after pregnancy. I also provide post-operative rehabilitation to support safe, effective recovery after surgery.
Beyond the clinic, I’ve had the privilege of speaking to a variety of groups, including high school cross country teams, dance teams, adult running groups, middle school students, and postpartum support groups.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory is spending time with my family fishing in Canada and going to the Outer Banks, North Carolina!
