Daily Inspiration: Meet Megan Hurley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Hurley.

Hi Megan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve wandered through many creative paths—commercial real estate, marketing, makeup artistry, and fashion styling—before arriving at my truest form of expression: painting. My work is raw and personal, shaped by early morning light, music, fashion, found objects, and the synchronicities the universe offers.

Each piece I create is one-of-a-kind, never duplicated, utilizing mediums such as acrylic, plaster, sketch work, and watercolor. My paintings are meant to be felt as much as seen, carrying the energy of the moment they were made.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has felt long, and I’ve explored many paths and outlets in my career. However, now in my 40s, I’m finally feeling a sense of ease and calm with what I produce, how I make, and the pace. In my 20s and 30s ,I was very driven to achieve success, wealth, and attention. And honestly, I strived so hard it worked against me – never feeling fulfilled or enough. Now, I’m more relaxed with what unfolds and how my art and career evolve. I have all the ideas, but I’m not placing too much pressure on myself to get it done yesterday, as I say.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My husband and I have experienced a long road in trying to grow a family of our own. After 5 years of trying naturally, we decided to pursue IVF, which turned into a journey and job in itself. If it wasn’t for my art, I don’t know how I could have worked through the heavy emotions attached to this time. My creativity was the only thing, or language, that supported my healing on a deep level. Maybe, our fertility journey is the gift God gave me to propel me as an artist.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I am a risk taker, but I take my time to think about the risk. In the end, I generally go with my gut and first instinct – but I do sleep on it. I have left jobs that no longer felt right, I started my own business in 2020 and closed up shop in 2024, I’ve left relationships that were not aligned with my values, and I spent money growing dreams that did not fully blossom. I am not risk-averse; I lead with my heart. Sometimes it grows and sometimes it’s a seed that has to sow…. a long time – lol.

Pricing:

  • at the moment my paintings range from $200 – $800
