Today we’d like to introduce you to Heidi Roth.
Hi Heidi, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
For many years, I dreamed of owning my own coffee shop – one where I could share my love of creating coffee with others while fostering an absolutely positive and encouraging experience that made each person’s day just a little bit brighter.
A couple years ago, I heard Jon Gordon talk about the importance of choosing one word to be the focal point for each year. So, in 2023 I chose the word “pivot” – largely because pivot seemed to be something I did often in my career (being a mom, then teacher, then business professional, then business owner). However, and maybe more importantly, I learned to pivot in my mindset, through challenges and the unexpected – to choose the positive focus of my thoughts and attitude.
Then, in 2024, I chose “grace” for my word of the year – knowing that I am in need of God’s grace , learning to fully accept that grace, and then remembering to extend that grace to others.
Since these words have been so impactful in my life, my husband suggested I make them part of my dream coffee business – hence, Pivot & Grace Coffee Company was born.
My hope is that each person will experience God’s grace and love as they pivot through life – knowing they are incredible and they truly matter!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In any new adventure, especially in starting a brand new business, there will always be bumps in the road and challenges to work through.
Even knowing these things would occur, it’s often still overwhelming – design delays, the many unknown costs and supplies needed, communication and timeline challenges, the time and money investment, physical challenges, and more.
However, we’ve learned so much during these last few months already! Past and future challenges help us grow, adjust, and pivot – which we embrace and know will ultimately make us and our business better in the long term.
We’ve been impressed with Pivot & Grace Coffee Company, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At Pivot & Grace Coffee Company, our slogan is “Turning around your day, wherever you are”. Our goal is to create and serve exceptional, specialty coffee and other beverages, all while building meaningful relationships with our customers.
We are a mobile coffee business in northeast Ohio. We travel and serve at local businesses, for beautiful wedding celebrations, at graduation parties, family get togethers, community events, and more. For private booked events, we create custom stickers and menus to match the setting and theme – it’s is one of our favorite and unique touches that make the day extra special for the guests in attendance.
Our team is dedicated to ensuring we love others well, serve with heart, and create custom beverages that keep our customers coming back.
We change our menu often based on the season/month – which includes specialty lattes, Lotus energy drinks, homemade cold brew, chai, matcha, and other non-coffee beverages for those who prefer that option (and kids too!).
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Starting a new business is definitely a risk. There are so many unknowns, questions, challenges, and risks associated with any new endeavor.
I believe that if we don’t ever take risks, we won’t know what we are truly capable of and we may miss an opportunity for growth or a future blessing.
And, risk-taking isn’t always related to starting a new business. We take risks when moving to a new city, or starting at a new school or a new job, or when we try something new….it can be daunting and scary.
We may not take risks for the fear of failure. I like to view failure as simply another opportunity to pivot – maybe there is something I need to learn or adjust in my mindset/plans, or maybe I just need to go a completely different direction. It’s all about perspective – if something doesn’t work out as I planned, I will focus on what is in my power to change and then modify my actions. We learn so much when we are willing to step outside our comfort zone – we learn more about ourselves and what we are capable (or not capable of) and we learn so much about the world and people around us.
To me, risk-taking is essential in life and business. My life is definitely better because of it.
