An Inspired Chat with Rachel Maloney of Columbus

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Rachel Maloney. Check out our conversation below.

Rachel, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: Who are you learning from right now?
Many mentors both at my full-time job in mental health & also in my part-time job of personal training. I very much look up to and want to learn everything I can from someone more successful than myself. Taking in all the knowledge they hold, so I can use it to build my future.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! My name is Rachel and I work in mental health in the medical setting full-time and train clients in personal training part-time! I’m continuing to build my personal training business, assisting both men & women to feel their best in the gym & outside of the gym; it’s a lifestyle. The importance of physical health, along with mental health is so prevalent in today’s society. We can have what we want with a touch of a button (literally on our phone). I want to bring back what working for your physical health can do for you right now but also in the long term, the benefits and how becoming stronger will greatly impact you for longevity. I’m working alongside another trainer right now, check us out to inquire about personal training & nutritional services- Beat614training.com

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
Definitely getting involved and playing basketball. Always loved the feeling of flying down the court, waiting to see how the team would work together for the next basket. The competitiveness and working with a team has continued to carry over into my adult years.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Many times- in school when working towards graduating, completing my Masters, working to pass my licensure exam & later working to pass my personal training certification. Didn’t always pass the first time, but continued on, kept studying and achieved it eventually. Mindset is so powerful.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
With personal training- training more=better results. This is not always true and for most people it isn’t ideal. Maintaining a good flow of cardiovascular activity along with strength training 2/3x per week is all most people need to do in order to maintain physical health and build muscle.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What will you regret not doing?
Not giving my all in whatever I chose to do! Putting in effort everyday is a non-negotiable. I don’t want to look back and wonder why I didn’t just do the hard thing, even when it’s a hard day. Again, mindset is a powerful thing to master & it’s not always perfect.
