Life & Work with Jaime Steel-Potter of Dayton, Ohio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaime Steel-Potter.

Hi Jaime, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Aviation runs deep in my family, My father and grandfather were both pilots and my father worked for many years in the aviation industry. I spent most of my early years in an aircraft hangar. At the age of 21 I started Steel Aviation in the spare bedroom of my house and it just took off from there. I have always been interested in and had a love for business it did not matter whether or not it was a real estate company or a lemonade stand. I just like the challenge of creating something of your own and making it a profitable endeavor

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The biggest challenge has been people not taking me seriously especially as a young woman in a prominently male dominated industry. I have often been mistaken as the “secretary”

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We try to cover all facets of the aviation industry. We are most known for the brokering of aircraft. However, we also own the Dayton-Phillipsburg Airport (3I7) where we have a top notch aviation maintenance facility, flight school and one of the best paint and interior shops in the entire country. I am most proud of the team we have built here; from our sales team all the way to our paint shop we have one of the hardest working teams in the industry today and I take an incredible amount of pride in the work that they do.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love the fact that Dayton has an amazing industrial heritage, between the development of flight, the electric starter, and even the development of the modern day soda pop tab. Dayton, and the entire Miami Valley in general has an incredible history of ingenuity and accomplishment. I do hate to see children in poverty, I try my best to give back to the local community in every way that I can but I really wish there was a way to help insure that every child had a safe place to live with food in their stomach’s.
