Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Evola.
Hi Matthew, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started working with glass in March of 2022 and instantly fell in love with the medium. I vowed that in two years time, I would be out of the restaurant industry and be a full time artist. I worked full time in the restaurant, and part time in the studio building my skills in working with glass for about a year. Things got the a point after a year that those roles reversed. I was able to work in the restaurant 1-2 days a week, and sustain myself mainly off of working in the studio full time. In March of 2024, I was let go from my job at the restaurant. It didn’t register to me at first, but I was let go from my job with only 2 days left in the month, the exact same month I told myself I would be out of the restaurant industry and a full time artist. This may not have been how I planned for it to happen, but I don’t believe in coincidences. I have been working for myself full time as an artist since that day, and I haven’t looked back.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been far from a smooth ride, but all the best rides in the amusement park have lots of twists, turns, and loop-de-loops. I am 90% self taught in my medium, and the remaining 10% I attended “YouTube University”. This came with its own set of challenges, especially in a medium as fragile and temperamental as glass. Along with the challenges of being a self taught glass artist, I had never ran a business before, and if I’m being honest, all I really wanted to do is make art. But in order to sustain being a full time artist, I had to find a balance between “running a business” and creating. That has been the hardest challenge I have faced so far.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My goal when I opened Ang333lic Glass LLC for business was for it to become an “all encompassing glass company”.
Services that we currently offer are:
Original Stained and Leaded Glass Artwork
Stained and Leaded Glass Repair and Restoration
Original Fused Glass Artwork and Jewelry
Hand Blown Glass Artwork and Jewelry
Stained Glass and Glass Mosaic Workshops
I would say we are well on our way to our goal.
