Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Ash.
Hi Hannah, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey as a caregiver/healer began early, as the oldest of five children. Throughout high school and after graduation, I started nursing school and worked in home health and hospice care. One of the hospice nurses said to me, “You’re walking them home, wherever home is for them.” This profound statement, similar to what is famously spoken by Ram Dass, has been a steady lens for me to navigate the miracle of life. From the joy of a newborn’s first cry to the peaceful transition of a hospice patient, I have witnessed the depth and complexities of life in all its forms.
I knew in my heart that I didn’t want to be a nurse; however, I left nursing school with a burning passion for anatomy, physiology, and the human experience. I stepped away from hospice care to work with infants at the JCC in Bexley, in the unknown of what I was going to do moving forward.
One night, I was massaging my partner’s feet, and he said, “I think you missed your calling.” I signed up for massage school the next day. It was as if I had died and been reborn, and I’ve been aware of this path I am on ever since. I now realize that life’s divine orchestration was guiding me deeper into this work, which continues to unfold, connecting me to a larger plan.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I firmly believe that every experience, no matter how challenging, serves a purpose. It may not be immediately apparent, or even understandable. Still, each struggle is an opportunity for me to delve deeper into myself, to grow, and to expand my capacity to handle life’s ups and downs.
A struggle I’ve faced is setting boundaries in giving and receiving. Learning the ongoing lesson, I realize I can’t be fully present to anyone until I’ve taken care of myself physically, mentally, spiritually, and emotionally. This realization has inspired me to carry the message of self-care, leading by example and motivating others to prioritize their well-being.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
One of my specialties is fascia-focused bodywork. I offer barefoot bodywork techniques, including Ashiatsu and Sarga, which emphasize a very slow and sustained approach that targets the fascial and nervous systems. In essence, it provides the deepest and most comfortable massage—it’s a unique felt experience.
I am often known for my distinctive barefoot work, which has earned me the nickname ‘the feet girl.’ It is truly an honor to be recognized in this way.
Currently, I am expanding my services to include trauma repair and coaching/integration offerings. While this is still in its early stages of development, I am excited about this new direction! Additionally, I am currently completing my Pilates instructor certification—I have my hands (and feet) in a variety of things.
I take great pride in creating conditions, both internally and externally, that allow others to experience deep presence, safety, and curiosity. This fosters a softness that enables them to truly be themselves, creating a space for full expression of life. Additionally, I hold deep reverence for the art of touch and the trust established within that space.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
The core of the advice I can offer is that your path will be unique to you; it has your name on it. Trust that and never stop being curious about what the moment in front of you is teaching you. The journey is the reward.
