Today we’d like to introduce you to Mitchell Bienvenue.
Hi Mitchell, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hello! My name is Mitchell Bienvenue. I am just a guy from Columbus, Ohio chasing dreams and trying to make the most out of every chapter.
I graduated from Thomas Worthington High School in 2015 and went on to become a Buckeye at The Ohio State University, a dream of mine growing up in Columbus.
After three years at Ohio State, I felt another dream calling and decided to head south to Fort Lauderdale, Florida to pursue the yachting industry. I became a deckhand on a 50 meter 164 foot yacht with a crew of 11 from around the world. In 18 months, we traveled over 10,000 nautical miles from Newport, Rhode Island, down through the Bahamas and throughout the Caribbean.
During that time, I downloaded TikTok and started documenting my adventures, not knowing it would eventually lead to something bigger.
After returning to Ohio, I continued creating content, this time focusing on my love for the Buckeye State and my life living with ulcerative colitis, something that has shaped me but never defined me.
These days, I’m a full time content creator, partnering with brands and businesses that align with who I am and what I care about. I also work part time as a nanny, which has become one of the most rewarding roles I’ve ever taken on.
I previously bartended and served at a private club and marina on Catawba Island, but I’ve since shifted my focus entirely to content creation and building my personal brand.
Alongside that, I co host a podcast called It’s Not All Black & White with my best friend Romain. The show dives into the gray areas of life, society, and culture because we believe life isn’t simply black or white.
At the end of the day, I believe you’re the author of your own story, so why not make it a good one? That’s exactly what I’m trying to do. And the best part is, I feel like this is just the beginning.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Life isn’t always smooth sailing, it never is. One of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make was walking away from my dream school, Ohio State, to pursue an industry I knew almost nothing about. Leaving behind everything familiar to chase something so unknown was terrifying, but deep down I knew it was something I had to do for myself.
That leap into yachting came with a steep learning curve, long hours, and major lifestyle adjustments. And beyond that, living with ulcerative colitis has added its own set of physical and emotional challenges over the years.
But through it all, I’ve learned that the uncomfortable moments are often the ones that push you toward growth. That decision — dropping out and following my gut (literally and figuratively), has been one of the best things I’ve ever done. It led me to incredible experiences, helped me find my voice as a creator, and opened doors I didn’t even know existed.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My dream is to create content full-time and make a living by monetizing my creativity, building my personal brand, and growing It’s Not All Black&White, the podcast I co-host with my best friend. Right now, I create a lot of content centered around the state of Ohio. As someone born and raised here, being able to partner with businesses across the state and promote all the beauty, opportunity, and potential Ohio has to offer is something I’m incredibly proud of. Ohio is special, and I love being able to shine a light on that.
I’m also passionate about using my platform to talk openly about living with Ulcerative Colitis. Creating content around IBD has allowed me to connect with others fighting silent battles and remind them they’re not alone. That’s something I’ll always be proud of.
In addition, I’m proud of the work I did in the yachting industry, especially being featured in two Dockwalk Magazine articles during my time at sea. I’ve also built a portrait photography side hustle, which has been a creative outlet and source of connection with others.
Most recently, I was honored to be featured, and land on the front page, of The Columbus Dispatch as a Columbus-based content creator. That was a full circle moment for me and a reminder that consistency and staying true to your message can lead to meaningful recognition.
What sets me apart is my unapologetic optimism. I have a deep belief in the goodness of people and the power of storytelling to unite us. I know there are incredible people and stories all over the world, we just need to shine more light on them. Let’s connect, lift each other up, and work toward making this world a little better.
Shoot for the moon, and if you fall short, at least you’ll land among the stars.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
The way I look at luck is simple: “The harder I work, the luckier I get.”
I’ve found that the more I put myself out there, whether it’s sharing my story, creating consistently, saying yes to new opportunities, or just showing up, the more doors tend to open. Sure, timing and chance can play a role, but I believe it’s about positioning yourself to be ready when that “luck” shows up.
So while I’ve definitely had moments of good fortune, I don’t think any of it happens without effort. You’ve got to keep showing up and doing the work, that’s when luck starts to show up, too.
