Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosita Murrillo.
Hi Rosita, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today. You can include as little or as much detail as you’d like.
While studying photography in college, I began with an eye for documentary and fashion—always the untold stories that pulled at heart lens. I was drawn to narratives often overlooked, particularly interested in elevating the voices and experiences of underrepresented communities.
Then came the pandemic. As the world slowed, I began to notice something else: small businesses—especially in Midwest cities like Cleveland, Detroit, and Chicago—were struggling not just to survive, but to be seen. While new and trendy startups were quickly gaining traction on social media, many long-standing businesses, rooted in their communities for decades, remained invisible. These were places that have done remarkable work: creating jobs, sustaining neighborhoods, and fostering local culture. Yet they lacked the marketing tools, media presence, or digital savvy to share their stories with a wider audience.
What began as a personal passion project—a quiet photo series aimed at documenting these enterprises as more than just economic engines—soon took on a life of its own. Through my lens, I started to capture these spaces as cultural institutions, places where history, creativity, and care converge. Over time, this work evolved into a mission: to chronicle the everyday brilliance of small business owners and preserve their stories with the dignity and depth they deserve.
And that’s when Creative Collab Studios was born—a creative partnership between the community and me, built on trust, storytelling, and shared purpose. A place where small business owners could tell their stories authentically, and where I could use my craft to amplify their voices. What started as documentation evolved into collaboration, and ultimately, into a deeper commitment to preserving the cultural heartbeat of our neighborhoods.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Of course not—it’s definitely been a journey with its fair share of challenges. Coming from a creative background, I had to learn the business side of things almost entirely on my own. Managing clients, improving the customer experience, handling contracts, building sustainable systems—none of that was taught to me, and it didn’t come naturally at first. There were a lot of growing pains, especially when it came to balancing the creative work I love with the administrative demands of running a business. But each hurdle has taught me something, and over time, I’ve learned how to build a structure that supports both the art and the operations.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At its core, my work is about storytelling—elevating the voices of small business owners and community builders who are often overlooked in traditional media. Through Creative Collab Studios, I specialize in creating visual and narrative content that captures the heart, history, and purpose behind local businesses. That means everything from brand photography and video storytelling to social media strategy and content consulting.
I’m most known for my ability to draw out the human element behind a brand. My work isn’t just about polished visuals; it’s about depth, intention, and connection. I take the time to build trust with the people I work with, to understand their values, and to translate that into authentic storytelling that resonates.
What sets Creative Collab Studios apart is our community-first approach. We don’t just create content for businesses—we co-create with them. Every project is collaborative and culturally aware, honoring the roots and relationships that make each business unique. We aim to center stories that reflect care, , resilience, and creativity, not just commerce. Our work uplifts real people doing meaningful work, and I think that integrity comes through in everything we produce.
For readers and potential collaborators, I’d want them to know that we offer more than just trendy content creation—we offer a partnership. Whether you’re looking for brand storytelling, visual strategy, or just a creative collaborator who cares about your mission, we’re here to help bring your story to life in a way that’s real, respectful, and rooted in community.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is truth and authenticity. In a world that often rewards surface-level perfection, I believe there’s something powerful—and necessary—about showing up as you truly are. Whether it’s through storytelling, photography, or collaboration, I strive to create work that feels real, honest, and grounded. That’s where connection happens. People resonate with what’s genuine, and I want every project I touch to reflect that. Telling the truth, honoring people’s stories, and staying rooted in authenticity isn’t just a creative choice—it’s a responsibility.
