Inspiring Conversations with Sarah Strack of Sunday Afternoon Picnics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Strack.

Hi Sarah , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have always known I wanted to be an entrepreneur and I love being creative and throwing events! I was scrolling on Instagram one day and saw that ownership of Sunday Afternoon Picnics was looking for a change and to sell the business. I immediately was interested and got in contact with the owners. I quickly realized this was something I wanted to take care of and nourish and to continue to grow. I bought the business and for the last few months been putting on picnics throughout Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky area.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’ve been navigating a learning curve since taking over Sunday Afternoon Picnics, literally learning something new every single day. One of our biggest challenges has been the weather. We want to provide our clients the best experience possible so we have had to get creative in how we setup and the time of day. I pride myself on being a lifelong learning so I want to continue to grow and learn as we grow SAP.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I’m obsessed with creating customizable picnics all over the Cincinnati/NKY area! Whether it’s in one of the parks listed on our site or any park you have in mind. I design everything from brunch spreads to cheese & meat boards and dessert-only pics, and SAP has done it all; proposals, gender reveals, birthdays, date nights, Mother’s/Father’s Day setups and more. I even rent tablescapes if you want to elevate things at home, or bring the whole setup right to your backyard. What I love most? Brainstorming themes and collaborating with clients to make their vision come to life!

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I bought this business 1.5 months after getting laid off. It was a hard and emotional time and honestly was trying to find myself and what I wanted to do next. It had been a long time since I found joy in a job and Sunday Afternoon Picnics came along and I knew I wanted to take a bet on myself. I feel so blessed owning and running Sunday Afternoon Picnics but it is a huge endeavor and I have had so much support from my people. My boyfriend Ryan has been one of the biggest supporters.

When I was 90% sure about buying SAP, Ryan and I went to see a picnic and the pure joy it brought me made everything clear. I remember thinking, Why am I even questioning this? This is exactly what I want to do. Buy it. Having a supportive partner makes all the difference, and seeing how much joy it brings him too has meant everything.

Since then, Ryan’s been right by my side, helping set up and tear down nearly every single picnic. Our very first picnic was even for a well-known Cincinnati athlete and his wife for Mother’s Day! Since then we have bee creating memories, meeting new people, sharing stories, and getting to be part of special moments by creating experiences that bring people joy. We even started a guest book for our picnic guests, so everyone can leave a little note while they’re with us. It’s become one of our favorite traditions.
