Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Howard.
Hi Megan, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I always wanted to be a hairstylist.
Growing up I wasn’t one of the pretty or popular girls, and in those formative years having a bad haircut and coke bottle glasses really hurt my self esteem.
Once I got a little older the confidence I gained from a box of hair color was anlmost instant. And with a little bit of confidence came some self-worth, a new attitude, and a whole lot of happy.
To be able to help people find their confidence, with something as simple as a haircut feels like a superpower.
There’s lots of ways I’ve been privileged to use my new “powers”, from simple root touch ups to cover those pesky “natural platinum, fixing an at-home color gone wrong, or giving free hair makeovers to women in shelters.
There’s something truly awesome about helping people’ love them selves., and I’m so excited to be a part of this industry.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I started my hairstylist journey with a beautiful salon to work in, and no idea what I was doing.
I knew the basics of how to do hair, but I had to figure out how to show it.
Being right out school I had no money, and no clients but I had a lot of drive!
I had some guidance from the salon owner, but as an independent contractor it was really up to me to learn how to navigate social media posting, advertising, finding clients , and learning how to navigate being a business owner.
I did a ton of free hair, I gave out gift certificates for every event I could, and drove all over the westside giving out gift bags with coupons for free haircuts and goodies.
I didn’t make one cent in profit the first year,. but the struggle was worth it. Now I’m 2 years in and I’ve built a clientele of people who are truly amazing! We have a built of community of women helping women, and I’m grateful to be the bridge between them.
My husband has been so supportive thru me building a business. He tells me he’s proud of me often, and takes me out for tacos if I’ve had a rough day. I wouldn’t be able to do any of this without his love and support.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My slogan is “Love Yourself, Love your Hair”
I’m dedicated to helping people get the hair of their dreams, so they can do just that!
I love doing color, including color corrections, root touch ups, and blonding.
I especially love vivid colors, and would consider this one of my specialties..
Recently I did a gorgeous prism of blues, greens and yellow for a client, and just the other day brought someone back to a beautiful bright blonde.
The most important thing about getting that dream hair is keeping your hair healthy, so I perform complimentary strengthening treatments with every color service.
Healthy hair is happy hair! I always have a thorough consultation with my clients to discuss their hair goals, explain the process, and educate them about their health of their hair.
Whether you want a pink and blue bob, a bronde balayage, or those greys to disappear, I can do that, and contribute to the health of your hair along the way!
What’s next?
I recently moved to a new salon suite at Gallery of Hair Colorists,, and I’m so excited for this new adventure!
I aim to become more involved in the Avon community by continuing to give back, I love to get involved in local raffles and fundraisers, and I’m always happy to donate my services!
I’m looking forward to growing my clientele by providing a relaxing environment and a top-notch service. I want my clients to remember that getting your hair done isn’t just an errand you need to run. It’s self care. And you deserve it. 🩷
