Today we’d like to introduce you to Tara Moore.
Hi Tara, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey to opening Obsidian Insight grew out of a deep desire to transform the way women experience healthcare. For years, I’ve worked as a Doctor of Physical Therapy in a large hospital system specializing in pelvic health for women. Over time, I became increasingly aware that many women – especially those struggling with pelvic floor dysfunction, bowel and bladder issues, hormone-driven symptoms, pelvic pain, or postpartum challenges – were not getting the comprehensive, personalized, consistent care they truly needed.
As I gained more experience, especially in functional medicine through the Institute of Functional Medicine, I completely transformed the way I approached patient care. I began to see how deeply interconnected the body is — how gut health, hormones, nutrition, and lifestyle factors impact physical recovery and long-term wellness. It became clear that true healing for women had to go beyond just physical therapy exercises with short appointments. I wanted to offer care that honored the whole person: body, mind, hormones, nutrition, and life experience.
Ultimately, I decided to step away from a secure hospital-based role to open Obsidian Insight, a private practice focused on pelvic physical therapy and functional medicine for women. My goal is to create a space where care is not rushed or transactional – but thoughtful, deeply personalized, and empowering. I want women to feel recognized and supported through every stage of life — from early period problems to postpartum recovery to perimenopause and everything in between.
Today, I serve clients in my new brick-and-mortar space located in Richfield, Ohio, and am steadily building relationships within the community to expand awareness about pelvic health and women’s wellness.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road — but it’s been worth every step. Leaving the security of a hospital job to open my own practice has been one of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make. It’s vulnerable, stepping into the unknown — building a business from scratch, learning marketing, managing finances, and finding the right space — all while trying to stay grounded in why I am doing this: to serve women better.
Another big challenge has been shifting the model of care. Many people are used to the traditional insurance-based system, where appointments are short and finite. Educating women (and the community) about the benefits of a private, subscription-friendly practice — where they get longer visits, more personalized attention, and truly comprehensive care — has taken time and patience.
But I’m learning so much through the process. I’m connecting with other practitioners, building relationships with local businesses, and watching as word of mouth slowly grows. Seeing my clients experience meaningful improvements in their quality of life makes all the struggles absolutely worth it.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Obsidian Insight is a boutique women’s health practice that blends pelvic floor physical therapy with functional medicine. I specialize in helping women at all stages of life — from period problems to postpartum recovery to perimenopause and beyond. My care addresses complex concerns like pelvic pain, bowel and bladder issues, hormonal imbalances, core dysfunction, fatigue, and metabolic challenges.
What really sets Obsidian Insight apart is the way care is delivered. In today’s healthcare system, women’s concerns are often dismissed or compartmentalized. Appointments are rushed, and symptoms are treated in isolation. At Obsidian Insight, I take a different approach — one that honors all symptoms and all systems in the plan of care.
From there, we can work to relieve symptoms and improve quality of life — while also addressing root causes for lasting change. And when necessary, I refer clients to the right specialists based on my evaluation, helping them navigate the healthcare system more effectively and ensuring they receive comprehensive support.
Every client receives deeply personalized, one-on-one care. We look at the full picture: nutrition, hormones, stress, lifestyle, movement, and musculoskeletal health. I offer both physical therapy and functional medicine services under one roof, which allows us to connect the dots and create truly effective treatment plans.
I’m proud of the experience I’ve created here — from the calming space, to the longer appointment times, to the ongoing support clients receive through a membership-based model. My goal is for every woman who walks through my door to feel recognized, supported, and proud of her body in a new way.
If I could share one thing with your readers, it’s this: you don’t have to live with discomfort or symptoms you’ve been told are “normal.” Having the right provider on your team — someone who supports you throughout the year and helps you address both symptoms and root causes — can make all the difference. That’s what we offer at Obsidian Insight.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
If I could offer one piece of advice to someone just starting out, it would be this: stay connected to why you’re doing this work. There will be challenges — building a business takes time, patience, and a lot of behind-the-scenes learning. It’s easy to get caught up in the logistics or compare yourself to others. But if you keep your focus on the people you want to serve and the impact you want to make, you’ll find your way.
I’d also encourage new business owners not to feel pressured to “do it all” right away — especially when it comes to social media. I’ve chosen to focus on building strong local relationships first, and will grow my online presence as the business evolves. Giving yourself permission to grow in stages can help you stay grounded and aligned with your vision.
Lastly, surround yourself with a supportive community — whether that’s other entrepreneurs, mentors, or practitioners who share your values. Having people to lean on and learn from makes the journey so much more sustainable (and enjoyable).
