Meet Chelsey DeMatteis of Westerville, Ohio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsey DeMatteis.

Chelsey, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m Chelsey DeMatteis, a wife, mother, and woman on fire for Jesus. I’m a devotional writer for Lifeway’s Journey Women Magazine, Salem Media, and YouVersion. I host the Living with Less Podcast, am the author of More of Him, Less of Me: Living a Christ-centered Life in a Me-centered World, A Thrill of Hope, and have book number three in the works. I’m the founder of Hear Her Story, a Women’s Worship Gathering hosted twice a year in Westerville.

From the moment I could string words together and put them to paper, I haven’t stopped. I always loved creating stories and writing in my diary when I was a little girl. As I grew, my love for creative writing and presenting projects took shape around the 5th grade. It was more than an outlet; it was where I felt most confident and alive!

Like everyone’s journey, there were twists and turns in the road to get to where I am today. There were a few years when my writing went dormant, but my love for it never went away. Journals were still filled, but my writing was more private rather than public.

Between 2016 and 2019, several significant events occurred that I believe were a direct result of God’s grace in my life, which opened doors for me to become a published author and a sought-after Christian speaker. In conversations with my family and mentor, as well as in my quiet time with the Lord, it became evident that this writing and speaking adventure had been planned for my life all along.

In 2019, my podcast Living with Less launched into the world. Which soon after led to my first written pieces being published with Salem Media, YouVersion Bible App, and Lifeway’s Journey Women Magazine in 2020. In 2021, my first devotional book, More of Him, Less of Me: Living a Christ-Centered Life in a Me-Centered World, was published by Arabelle Publishing. Then came my most recent book, an Advent devotional titled A Thrill of Hope, which was published in 2024. I’m currently working on my third book, Mercy in the Margin, which is scheduled for release by B&H in August 2026. This 52-week devotional is designed for moms to encounter Jesus in the most unlikely places of motherhood.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Anyone in the creative space knows ruts come. Creativity feels zapped, and we wonder if we’ll ever get back in stride. The answer for me has always been: Yes, creativity comes back, but typically not in the timeline we want! It may take days, weeks, months, or years, depending on what is happening in one’s personal life.

Another area of struggle that many creatives have to navigate is avoiding the comparison trap. When we start comparing our accomplishments or goals to those of others, we begin to doubt what we are doing, our creativity becomes clouded, and we can quickly lose our way.

Having people in your corner to encourage you and pray for you along the way is vitally important!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a witty, tender, truth-telling woman on fire for the gospel! I seamlessly weave together my understanding of Scripture with my unique ability to connect with women on a personal level.

Through my written words, and depth of teaching, I empower women to navigate the complexities of life with confidence in Christ and understanding the gift of grace we’ve received. I help them apply the Word of God to their life without diluting the message of the scripture.

With my infectious joy for Jesus, I create an atmosphere that resonates with women across all walks of life. Whether it’s through a conference, retreat, or podcast, my message transcends barriers and unites women in their pursuit of a deeper relationship with Christ.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
At this stage of my life, with two young children, seeing their joy brings me great joy. Nothing beats a house filled with laughter and watching your children do what makes them feel most alive.

Aside from the joy of my family, I love taking my 4-mile walks. They give me room to breathe and be in nature, and nothing beats the endorphins from the steady state of cardio!
