Daily Inspiration: Meet Lisa Livingston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Livingston.

Hi Lisa, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My name is lisa Livingston
Im from paoli Indiana
In 2013 do to a medical condition i was prescribe pain pills
And become addicted, which led to use of cocaine and methamphetamine i was arrested in August of 2013. Which save my life?I was always a productive member of society prior to once I started doing drugs i came down to the Blues house in Jeffersonville, Indiana and started my journey in recovery in 2014. I graduated the program and started ly home construction company. While working working in recovery
The construction company.
Started doing really good in two thousand sixteen one of my friends passed away from a heroin overdose
I knew I needed to do something because there was only one treatment facility for women and into southern indiana
I took my savings and opened a recovery home called the break away recovery home. In new albany Indiana. It is a 16 bed facility.for women we opened in 2017 while working constuction and volunteering, my extra time through the recovery home
I had penning charges for my arrest in 2013 fast forward to 2018 I was 5 years sober? And sentenced to thirty years in prison for drug charges from 2013
After serving 11 months the Indiana supreme court, overturn my conviction and I was released in 2019
I came home and continued to run the recovery home and LRC roofing my constuction company who im 50% owner with my nephew
In 2021 i lost my only daughter lacey, livingston, to a drug overdose
It was a real hard time in my life but I keep my head up and continue to help others with addiction problems
Now I am the executive director and founder over the breakaway
women’s recovery home
I also have five house’s lacey’s place 1-5 for men and women
I have dedicated my life to helping others, we struggle with drug addiction, just like me
While I own and manage my constuction company

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It was a struggle to finally get the help I needed to live clean and sober
And in my business being a woman owned constuction company had challenges
And also being locked up five years sober
When the state of Indiana at the time wasn’t recognizing recovery versus incarceration for nonviolent criminals

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
As far as the recovery homes, I pray that i’m able to get more men’s halfway houses open so that they can have more of an option to have long term recovery

My instruction, company l r c roofing and remoteling hopefully, I can grow and be able to hire and help.More people who have i’ve struggled with addictions who are talented people with job skills that deserves a second chance
