Today we’d like to introduce you to Austin Fields.
Austin, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
So i was introduced to tattooing early on in my teenage years by my mom who was learning to tattoo at the time. My mom passed away when i was 17 which put a drive in me to want to tattoo as well. I got my apprenticeship when i was 19.
I have had the opportunity to travel all over to work with and learn from some of the best artists in the world.
For the last 7 years i have gotten to take what I’ve learned and put it into my own shop!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. With traveling and moving a lot comes with a ton of lonely nights spent drawing and missing my family and friends.
Lots of sleepless nights preparing for tattoos.
With all the pressure i put on my self over those years came with a lot of mental health issues.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a tattoo artist. I specialize in black and grey realism and large scale floral tattoos.
I am known for large floral sleeves with surreal nature scenes.
I am proud to have brought this style of work to this part of the US. I started doing this style well over a decade ago and it’s awesome to have watched it grow to be as popular as it is today.
What does success mean to you?
My view of success is… being able to do what i love everyday to make sure my family will be taken care of long after i am gone.
