Hidden Gems: Meet Jax Amadio of Pierced Poets’ Productions

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jax Amadio

Hi Jax, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Pierced Poets began as a small group of friends writing about a shared love of music — the name stuck as I began programming at WRUW, with The Pierced Poets’ Party LIVE radio show. That show (which still airs weekly!) became increasingly focused on building & highlighting different forms of community around the Cleveland music scene at a time where I was building an incredible crew of skilled event laborers working gigs wherever I could. The two parts of my life ultimately were able to merge to form Pierced Poets’ Productions, our full service, community-focused event labor force. Now we’re one year and a thousand mistakes in, but growing stronger together with every stage we build, barricade we staff, and event we produce.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
While our leadership has thousands of hours of industry experience, none of us had any business experience. Learning how to run a business, from the pains of navigating all the different kinds of insurance we needed to setting up a robust payroll infrastructure to the most basic bookkeeping – if it wasn’t related directly to event staffing & production, it’s been a struggle! We’re finally feeling like we’ve learned enough to start to grow without being completely gripped by fear.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
The Pierced Poets are a community of specially organized, well-seasoned, & consistently trained professionals spanning every major branch of event labor. Just about every business has an event of some sort at some point – we’re here to make sure the event has an achievable purpose & executable direction… and, of course, to achieve and execute thereafter.

Our special sauce as an organization is just how integrated our staff is with the events community. We are not a temp agency or recruitment company; we are artists & creatives of all varieties, deeply invested in the success of every event we work because we know what we would want our own events to look & feel like.

We just want the world to know we are here to help. We have a huge labor force hungry for work – you won’t find a more passionate, pleasant crew with which to work.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Don’t stay home! The helpers are out there, you just need to meet them. Go to local shows, volunteer every night you’re not otherwise occupied. Go to the networking event even when the thought makes you cringe. You only need one connection to open up your world!
