Check Out Brooke Smith’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooke Smith

Hi Brooke, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Hi there! I’m Brooke Smith, the face behind Brooke Bakes Cookies & Cakes in Westerville, Ohio. I’ve enjoyed baking for as long as I can remember! Growing up, Christmas was the best—hands down. My mom, sister, and I would spend hours in the kitchen whipping up all kinds of cookies. I’m pretty sure that’s where my love for baking started (and, let’s be real, probably where I got my serious sweet tooth too)!

Flash forward to today — I am now a proud mom of three energetic little boys (seriously, they keep me on my toes!). I found so much joy in making their birthdays extra special, and that meant tackling their cakes. One cake led to another, and eventually, I was making goodies for my friends too. It wasn’t long before I realized, “Hey, I could really do this!”

And that’s exactly what I did. In March 2022, Brooke Bakes officially came to life, and it’s been the most amazing adventure since. I’m 100% self-taught, and I love that I get to blend my creative side with my love for sweets. Every cookie, every cake—it’s like turning something delicious into a little piece of art! Honestly, it’s the sweetest gig ever (pun totally intended).

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As the saying goes, nothing worthwhile comes easy. Balancing my roles as a professional counselor, running a small home bakery, and being a full-time mom has certainly presented its challenges. One major hurdle is time—there’s simply never enough of it. As someone who also struggles with ADHD, prioritizing tasks can be a real struggle when juggling so many responsibilities at once. Making how I utilize my time even more important. It’s definitely a bit of a juggling act, but I take it one day at a time and never hesitate to ask for help when I need it! I’ve got my incredible family to thank for that—they’re my biggest cheerleaders, always there with endless support.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a baker, sugar artist, and the proud business owner. My passion lies in creating custom-decorated sugar cookies and cakes, each one a unique masterpiece blending my clients’ visions with my own artistic flair.

But besides baking, I love teaching cookie decorating classes, too! It’s such a blast to inspire others and spread the joy of sugar art. — I love seeing how others add their own creative twist to things! While creating custom cookies and cakes are my main focus, I also offer a wide variety of other baked goods that cater to different tastes and celebrations, so there’s always something delicious for everyone.

I’m really proud of how much I’ve grown as an artist and everything I’ve achieved with my business over the past couple of years; personally and professionally, When I kicked off Brooke Bakes in March 2022, I never imagined it would turn into what it is today. I’m incredibly grateful for the support from my customers, family, and friends—it’s because of them that I get to push my creative boundaries, experience amazing opportunities, and get to do what I love every day. It’s an honor to have my treats be part of so many special moments. My love for baking, attention to detail, and enthusiasm for sharing my craft has helped me build a wonderful community of dessert lovers who cheer me on and continue to grow along with me.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
For me, baking is all about having fun and letting my creativity flow. When it starts feeling more like a chore, the magic just isn’t there, and I’m generally less happy with the outcome. Of course, running a business requires some serious work, but knowing when to switch gears helps me keep it enjoyable and find balance. Additionally, I think a big part of my success comes from being open to learning and trying something new with every order I take on. Whether that’s a new technique or recognizing when I need a break. Both are equally important.

Desserts have a way of bringing people together; and honestly, I wouldn’t be where I am today without the incredible community that’s grown with me over the years. Getting to connect with other dessert lovers and hearing their feedback has evolved into such a supportive network that continues to inspire me. I’ve realized that success isn’t just about the treats I create—it’s about the happiness they bring to others. That’s what keeps me motivated and is really at the heart of everything I do.
