Today we’d like to introduce you to Donna Tanner

Hi Donna, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My husband and I purchased Master Pizza Painesville in 2020 from his Aunt and Uncle that had owned it for years. This specific Master Pizza holds all the original recipes and is apart from the franchises throughout Ohio.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Purchasing the shop in July of 2020 had it’s challenges thanks to COVID-19 and mandatory shutdowns. We have been able to maintain a strong team and could have survived without them and the loyal customer base. I think all restaurants struggle with staffing, supply and demand issues, increased prices, and so forth, so we were not experiencing any hardships outside of everyone else at the time. Owning a food service establishment is never smooth but we have been fortunate thanks to everyone along the way.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We specialize in pizza! It’s the basis of who we are, but we have great food all the way around. We serve salads, subs, pasta dishes, dinners and so many appetizers that you can never leave hungry. Plus, our wings are delicious! These original recipes stem back from 1972 and hold tried and true. I think what sets us apart is our pizza oven. You can’t come in and expect a quick pizza. It’s a process and that oven cooks them to perfection old school style.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
The food industry itself is challenging. Places open and close everyday. We hope to be around for many, many years to come and can see ourselves expanding into other areas and creating some of our own original recipes.
