Today we’d like to introduce you to Sam Beale
Hi Sam, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My names Sam Beale and the best thing about my business is I am my own business. As a professional wrestler my product is my entertainment.
Like most people who get into the wrestling business you start out as a fan. Thats what I was when I was in high school. Instead of going to parties and doing other stuff teenagers do, I would stay at home with a couple buddies playing with action figures and video games of wrestling. Even after all that I never really wanted to pursue being a wrestler until my freshmen year of college. I was at work watching a documentary about Seth Rollins. While I was watching I just started to connect things that I saw him and his buddies do to what we did. And I was like man I can do this. So I looked up a school and the rest is history.
I started out here in Toledo, Oh at a wrestling school that is no longer around anymore, ironically enough my first day of school we did not even have a ring to roll around in. I was also working two jobs while going to school full time to become a teacher. I guess you could say I always had a full plate. That’s how I liked it then and how I like it now. I will say it was a challenge to get my foot in the door in the business, but never let that stop me. Once I saw a sliver of light I barged through and I haven’t looked back since.
One of the big reasons why I believe I have had some success in the wrestling world is my consistency. I am always on the grind whether it be training in the gym or in the ring, traveling to shows, watching film of my matches or reaching out to promoters, nothing stops me. There are so many wrestlers in the world that it is very easy for fans and promoters to forget about you. I believe that being consistent helps me stay at the front of their minds. Another big reason is I’m just a genuinely nice guy with a lot of passion for what I do. Actions always speak louder than words so watch my work in the ring and you will see the passion come out. Also can’t forget to mention my rockstar of a wife who helps me make this all possible by supporting my family and I while I travel the world chasing my dream. I would not be able to do it without her. My dad told me behind every champion is an even better women/partner.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I feel like anyone who owns a business never has a smooth road. Anyone who chases a dream fails, restarts, fails again to be left with so much doubt if it’s even worth it, then finds a little hope just to fail again, but they keep pushing. Perseverance is a must when chasing a dream because you are always going to hit roadblocks but it’s how you conquer those blocks and continuously move forward. The best way I put it in my own terms is you’re staring at a brick wall with the light at the end of it. Each match or moment in your career you chip away at the wall to see just a little bit of light shine through. That light keeps motivating you to work harder and reach for your goals.
I can list numerous personal struggles or things to navigate I have had in my career. When I first started not having the proper guidance on how to really start a wrestling career. Like finding shows, training or what I should do to be the best wrestler I can be. It wasn’t until like my fourth year in I started having the right guidance. Then there was my body physique. In the wrestling world you have to look the part to be the part. When I first started I was the opposite. I took it upon myself to get my body right. Then I had a lot of success on a TV program to just be let go out of the blue. I was told we were the best story going on tv at the time and abruptly it was all cut. Also just starting a family, this puts a lot of weight on my own mind to be successful so it’s all worth it, but also managing time to be the best father to my children and also a good husband to my wife. Any struggle you go through is a lot about figuring it out on your own. No one is going to feel sorry for you or give you the answers. That’s the beauty of life. You get to face every challenge head on.
In my mind I’m never gonna give up on being the best performer I can be for my family but most importantly for me.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a professional wrestler. Professional Wrestling is the art of live sport with entertainment. It’s the only place on earth where you will see two people beating each other with steel chairs and doing the Griddy in the same match. It’s the idea of suspending belief of the real world and believing in a warriors that fight for something. You have giants, masked men, tag teams, women’s, micro, comedy, brutal, so many different shapes and sizes all performing their own style of professional wrestling. Typically each match creates a story of a good guy vs a bad guy and how the good guy prevails through all the cheating or the bad guy finds a dirty way to win. Professional wrestling is the best sport on the planet. The stigma you may have about wrestling is totally different. I encourage you to check out a local independent show and feel how crazy and awesome they are. The intimacy will hook you for life.
I am known in the wrestling world as the Croc rockin, Nickelback poppin, curls for all the girls, The Permanator Sam Beale. I head to the ring crushin Busch Lattes and eating Dubs. Each time I step into the ring I ooze Permfection from my helmet of permed goodness all the way to my toes. Each mother in attendance and watching at home can smell my presence of a light beer and a victory even through a screen. The Permanator is Americas best buddy with a mullet that is all Flow and Go. I am the best at shotgunning beers on either side of the Mississippi River. Trust me when I say Sam Beale is all business up front so later he can head out back and party. My unique style of wrestling and genuine relatability allows me to connect with the fans in a deep level. This sets me apart from a lot of other wrestler. It’s something I take a lot of pride in having the fans be apart of the show no matter what. If I’m a good guy I want them to feel the pain I’m going through and help cheer me up to push through the match, or if I’m a bad guy I want them to suffer and boo me like the opponent I’m facing. Fan involvement is so crucial for wrestling.
Some of the accomplishments I am most proud of are the championships I have won in numerous companies all over the United States, the time I spent on TNA, performing for Ring of Honor at the Huntington Center in my hometown, wrestling so many different people I used to watch on WWE back when I was a kid, but most importantly the biggest accomplishment I can say is I’m still chasing the dream. I have been going for 8 years, through all the trial and error and doubts I have had I’m still pushing forward. I love performing, I love traveling to cities and countries I never thought I would, love my fans for always giving me a purpose to keep going and I love myself for never giving up.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
The resource I say I use a lot would be music. I’ve tried to listen to podcasts or read books but I can’t connect with them as well as I can with music. For me personally when I listen to a song I listen for two things: one how good it sounds and two the lyrics. The sound of a great song can put me in a happy place where I can accomplish a lot of different things. The lyrics however do a different thing to me. It motivates me. I make the connection to a lyric or story of the lyrics and I just want to run through a brick wall. One of the songs that I put on when I start to doubt my self is “I Lived” by One Republic. Every word they sing just makes me realize that every struggle is worth it in the end when I make it. The song also reminds me to step back and smell my flowers along the journey. A lot of time we get caught up in what’s next and don’t appreciate the journey that gets us to what’s next. There are so many songs and artist that inspire me in wrestling and life but I’m only going to showcase a few Luke Combs, Noah Kahan, Jon Pardi.
