Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Christie
Hi Ryan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I launched Verus Athletics from my parents’ basement while finishing my degree at the University of Toledo. My passion for sports performance ignited after my college basketball career ended, driving me to work with hundreds of athletes across all ages and levels over the past three years. Recently, I earned my Level 2 ATG certification, becoming one of only two professionals in Ohio to achieve this distinction.
I specialize in developing athleticism, focusing on vertical jump and speed training, but my reach extends far beyond the basketball court. I’ve trained athletes from a wide range of sports, including track, football, baseball, volleyball, basketball, soccer, and MMA, tailoring programs to fit the unique demands of each sport. My philosophy centers on building athleticism first, ensuring every athlete is prepared to excel in their specific field.
My work has taken me to the highest levels of athletic performance, collaborating with seven professional players competing overseas, Division 1 athletes in Power 5 conferences, and ESPN Top 100 players.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of the biggest challenges has been turning Verus Athletics from a side hustle into a business. There’s not really a roadmap out there to show you what to do next. I am lucky to have a lot of great mentors that have helped me navigate the process of being a business owner.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Verus Athletics specializes in Athleticism Development Training, Basketball Skill Development, Camps and Clinics, Business Wellness Programs, Team Coaching, and offers the convenience of the Verus Athletics App. We are dedicated to helping athletes unlock their full potential both on and off the court.
What I’m most proud of, is the impact Verus Athletics has had beyond sports. From supporting athletes’ mental health to fostering connections between athletes from different schools, it’s been incredible to see this network grow. To see Verus Athletics evolve into more than just a training—is what I’ve become most passionate about.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I think we have the ability to put ourselves in situations where we may experience good luck more often. I don’t necessarily rely on or seek good luck. I am very detailed in my approach. I am not much one to look for good luck. With that being said, I have been lucky before.
