Today we’d like to introduce you to Jackson Bivens
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My full name is Jackson Deonne Bivens. I was born and raised in Cincinnati, OH. I have been a diehard fan of the Bearcats, Bengals and Reds. Because of Knuckles (Sonic, the Hedgehog), Raphael (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) and Jason (the original Red Ranger), red has always been my favourite colour. Basketball is my first love. I share a birthday with PlayStation. I have been an enormous fan of DC Comics for as long as I can remember. The late great Kevin Conroy is forever my Batman. To this day, I am still a big WWE fan.
After graduating from Princeton High School in 2010, I began my undergrad at Cleveland State University four months afterwards. That is what planted the seed that led me to where I am in life at this very moment. My parents never wanted me to go into downtown Cincy because of its history of bad environments. When I first arrived in Cleveland, its downtown caught my attention. I was finally able to explore the city and learn its rich history. Little did I know, a whole chapter in life was slowly dawning upon me.
Looking back at my younger self, I say I did okay despite some mistakes and circumstances throughout this journey. I am fortunate to be surrounded by great friends and my family have been supportive since day one. I do not know what the future holds for me. One thing I do know: I will not stop being myself. I am sticking to my goals and my morals. I am excited to see what happens next. As an actor, I hope to be signed to an agency and be qualified for an SAG membership. As a cosplayer, I want to travel to different cons across the country with new cosplays and meet new people.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My life has changed a lot since I began college. I have had a fair share of loss among other circumstances (the pandemic). It has been an arduous journey so far. I cannot complain because I am still trying to progress in life. Being a non-union actor without an agent can be challenging at times. However, I have been honoured with my career so far. Every gig has been fun. I have worked with some very passionate people in this business (even made new friends along the way).
Since last year, I have filmed a few projects. I was the second male lead in my most proud project by far. It’s called “The Man Makes the Title.” I play a professional wrestler named Christian Hunt. After that, I filmed my last scenes for a movie called “Quervo: Blending In.” I play a high school bully named Coby and the project is almost finished. I starred in Marquis Storm’s music video for his latest single “Grateful.” And I also had the honour and privilege to be cast in the upcoming ‘Superman’ movie (directed by James Gunn).
I have three upcoming projects. Two of them are short films (one is with Kyle Nenadovich, director/writer/producer of ‘The Man Makes the Title.’ The other is with Jared Vaughn, a local filmmaker). The other project is a voiceover for a track for Marquis Storm’s upcoming mixtape called, ‘The Feeling’s Mutual.’ After I complete this project, I will be cosplaying on Halloween for the first time in four years. Then, I will take a break from both careers. I have been working hard these last two years and must work towards a personal goal that I no longer want to put on hold.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an Event Security Officer for the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Cleveland Monsters. I am going into my tenth season. I am happy to be part of a team that treats me like family. I have a lot of great memories and stories to tell. And there are many more to come.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
When I was in the fourth grade, our basketball team went undefeated. I wore number 25 for the first time. It has been my favourite number since then. I won the 2001-2002 “Best Defensive Player Award.” Also, we had a red-nose American Pit Bull Terrier named Magnum. He was the best dog ever. I still miss him dearly.
