Today we’d like to introduce you to Shirley Ellis

Hi Shirley, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born to a single mother who loved my brother and me deeply and gave her all to provide us with what we needed. Like any family, we faced our share of struggles, but even in those tough moments, I held onto a vision of a brighter future. From an early age, I knew I was destined to achieve great things. I knew following the crowd would be detrimental to my success, so I’ve always been a leader focused on forging my own path. I naturally gravitated toward older, wiser individuals who could mentor me through life’s challenges and guide me in navigating the complexities of relationships.

In middle school, I found myself deeply involved in my local church. It was through my faith in Jesus that I discovered my true purpose. That faith became the foundation of my life, and it fueled my ambition to make a difference.

My career began in retail, fast food, and customer service, where I worked for over nine years. Then, I was offered a position as a Collections Rep at Discover Card. After much reflection, I took the leap, even though the corporate world felt unfamiliar. I started at the bottom as an agent but worked my way up to manager. I eventually moved into project management, a field that perfectly matched my strengths in relationship building, communication, and problem-solving. The early days at Discover, however, were not without challenges.
I looked around and didn’t see anyone who looked like me in leadership roles, nor were there many who proactively offered mentorship or guidance. Gaining sponsorship required me to step out of my comfort zone and seek out relationships that could help me advance. As a naturally ambitious and extroverted person, I didn’t shy away from the challenge. I networked strategically, building a personal brand I could be proud of. Slowly but surely, doors began to open.

This is why I’m so passionate about helping others navigate their careers. For the longest time, I wished I had seen someone who looked like me in positions of power to show me that success was indeed possible. But sometimes, we must be the blueprint for our own success, even when we’ve never seen it before.

I advanced in my career through determination, mastering each role, and building meaningful relationships with influential people. In every position, I performed at a high level, effectively communicated my value, and strived to be a dependable resource for my team.Through faith, hard work, and an unshakable belief in my purpose, I turned my challenges into opportunities for success, and now my goal is to help others do the same.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’ve always been confident, but I’ve faced my share of battles with fear, rejection, and feelings of inadequacy. For years, those doubts held me back. However, over the past five years, I’ve made it my mission to deeply understand who I am, build confidence in my identity, and recognize my worth—no longer depending on the approval of others.

Surrounding myself with people who genuinely believed in me, even when I couldn’t see my own potential, was another crucial aspect of helping me overcome my fear of failure. Their support reminded me my purpose is bigger than my fears. I realized that people were watching my journey, drawing strength from my resilience, and hoping to see me succeed so they could find their own courage.

That’s when everything changed for me. I knew I couldn’t allow fear to be the reason I—or anyone else—missed out on the life we deserve. I embraced the fact that my actions could inspire others to step outside of their comfort zones.

Resilience is not just about pushing through—it’s about leading by example, knowing that someone else’s breakthrough might depend on seeing you chase your dreams relentlessly.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My passion for leadership development and driving teams to excellence inspired the creation of Intentional Impact LLC. As a certified project manager and motivational speaker, I focus on fostering leadership growth, building thriving organizational cultures, and empowering women to reach their highest potential. Through Intentional Impact LLC, I provide leadership coaching, consulting, and motivational speaking, all tailored to deliver genuine and personalized development. My goal is to equip leaders and teams with the strategies to build resilience, achieve exceptional results, and create a culture of continuous improvement that unlocks success. At the heart of my mission is a commitment to helping individuals and organizations realize their capabilities and implement actionable solutions for long-term success.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Throughout my journey, two key elements have driven my success: faith and hard work. My faith has given me the strength to face tough times, reminding me that my present challenges are not my final destination. Hard work has been essential, as success requires dedication, consistency, and effort, even when it’s difficult.

One of the greatest lessons I’ve learned is that resilience plays a vital role in success. The ability to bounce back from setbacks has been just as important as the effort I put in. No matter the obstacles, I kept pushing forward, knowing each challenge was shaping me for the better.

I’ve remained focused on my goals, aligning my actions, habits, and mindset with the vision for my life. Like everyone, I’ve had moments of doubt and procrastination, and during those times, my mentors have been crucial in holding me accountable, encouraging me, and keeping me on track.

When you lead with faith, resilience, and intentionality, success isn’t left to chance—it’s the direct result of your commitment and determination.
