Rising Stars: Meet Kasey Brown of Norwood Ohio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kasey Brown

Hi Kasey, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Born in Cincinnati, I grew up with a mostly stable childhood. My dad gave his life to Jesus when he was 39 years old, so Christianity was truly introduced to me at the age of 9. My dad believed God was calling us to West Virginia for ministry purposes. From my 6th- 8th grade years, I was very angry. Facing bullying and friendlessness, fighting parents and poverty, I couldn’t fathom wanting anything to do with a God who would force my family of 6 to live in a 2 bedroom trailer with my grandma in the hills of West Virginia. We ended up moving back to Cincinnati 3 days before my freshman year of high school, going from a school of 200 to a school of 2,500.

It was here, when I was 15 that I realized God was working on my heart. A childhood friend, who to this day is still my best friend, dragged me to church and youth group every week. This resulted in me giving my life to Jesus the summer of 2015, and I have never once regretted that decision.
I decided to attend Cedarville University for a degree in Worship, Biblical Counseling, and Biblical Studies.
After my freshman year of college, the Lord opened a door for me to travel with a ministry called ‘True Girl’, which goes across the country + Canada spreading the Gospel to mothers and daughters (ages 7-12). I dropped out of school, lived on a bus, and did multiple shows a week. This was truly the top experience of my life. I have never felt more fulfilled.

This tour lasted 9 months only to come to a screeching halt in 2020 because, well… you know why. COVID! During this time, I decided to pour into song writing, and released my first two songs in 2020 (one of them reaching over 150,000 streams).

Then, I met a boy. Avery and I fell in love over quarantine, sneaking out to see one another almost every day. He had recently given his life over to the Lord, and I lived for the excitement of our conversations.
I decided to go back to school while dating Avery and quickly realized that I was not content with my life. I wanted to get out and do ministry! Not sit behind a desk. My college years quickly became some of the darkest in my life, as I battled deep anxiety that robbed me of all my peace. I had no idea how to go about living like this, especially since I was a worship major.. it seemed my battle with anxiety was oxymoronic.

I graduated in 2022 and started going to counseling (which I still do today) and married Avery October 7th, 2022. I started working at Norwood Church as their full-time worship leader and have been here for 2 years now! I love my job. Attendance was averaging 40 people when I first came. Now we average 100 every Sunday. God is good!

I am currently working on releasing a full album in the next month and look forward to more of what God has in store for my life, still struggling with what it looks like to be an adult in a world so broken. But I am hopeful, because what would this life be without hope?

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Check the last page.. I kind of blurted everything out😂

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a full time director of worship and connections at norwood church!
I would say I am known for my “spirit lead” worship, and my voice.

I am the most proud of my leadership abilities when it comes to drawing people closer to the father. I think this also sets me apart. And that I am a worship song writer!

I have also just started a part time business on the side doing wedding hair and makeup that is taking off! @kaseybrownbeauty

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Check again my 3rd slide, but I would say doing True Girl was the biggest risk ive ever taken (besides getting married and giving my life to Christ)
If God is leading me to take the risk, I will always do my best to do it because it ALWAYS pays off for my benefit and His.

I would say I am a risk taker.

Pricing:

  • $150 a week stipend is what I got paid on tour. YIKES! SO worth it.
  • $140,000 to get a degree in worship. Crazy right?
