Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Patrice
Hi Taylor, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been into the computer and creating videos. Even when I was in elementary school, I would take my moms camcorder and act like I was making movies, or taking pictures, but it wasn’t until my Uncle English taught me how he used “Windows Movie Maker” to make slideshows of the family and burn them on cd’s. From that day forward, instead of giving school presentations using powerpoint, I was using movie maker, and recording films. Who would have known a little 10 minute lesson, would turn into me being a full time social media influencer ?
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not ! I graduated high school in 2014, and social media was on the rise, but it wasn’t quite there yet. So when I started being consistent with my content in 2015 nobody around me truly understood what I was doing. I didn’t even understand what I was doing, but what I did know is I enjoyed being in front of the camera, and I enjoyed the production of it all. Knowing how crazy and chaotic things were behind the scenes but creating a beautiful project from start to finish by myself was rewarding within itself. Now we are going into my 10th year of being a influencer, and I’m not going to lie, sometimes I become discouraged because I haven’t hit 100k followers on any of my platforms, or even 1 million views on one of my videos, but then I remember that I am an inspiration for someone out there that wants to keep swimming but doesn’t know how. I don’t have the “success story” that my peers may have but I think that’s what makes me different. I’m just a midwest girlie that has a dream, and I am taking you all on the journey, because I WILL accomplish all of my goals, and I hope that my journey helps someone out there do the same.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Well, I am a social media influencer. I know a lot of people reading this probably doesn’t even know what that is, and that’s understandable, because there are so many layers. But the best way I can describe it is think of all the commercials you watched back in the day in between shows. Brands promoting their product right? Well since we are in the era of streaming, most people find their next product to buy scrolling on social media, and that’s where I come into play. Some people may come to my platforms for beauty, fashion, travel tips, or just a good laugh, but all in all I consider myself a lifestyle influencer, because in all actuality, I am just living my life, and showing you all my journey.
I think I would honestly say I am most proud of sticking to it. People already look at entrepreneurs like they’re crazy for taking a step out on faith. So being that I came up during a time that my job didn’t exist was really hard and trying at times. There wasn’t a lot of support because people couldn’t fully understand the vision, but I continued to walk on the path, even though the path was just a dirt road. I kept walking until I saw green grass!
The thing that I think that sets me apart from others is that I don’t have just one niche. I am very multifaceted, and honestly it used to be an insecurity of mine, but now I appreciate it. Not having such a “niche specific brand” allows me to build a community from every aspect of life, and I love that. It doesn’t matter where you are in life, there’s a place for you over here !
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t believe in good and bad luck. This journey has showed me that everything really happens for a reason! If you have big goals, just know you’re going to have to go through big obstacles, to match those big goals !
