Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Cromer
Hi Shannon, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey has been a testament to resilience and perseverance. As a two-time cancer survivor, I’ve faced challenges that have shaped who I am today. While battling through those health struggles, I worked on my real estate license part-time, always with the hope of growing my career in the industry.
In May of this year, I faced another turning point when I was laid off from my previous job. Rather than seeing it as a setback, I took it as an opportunity to fully commit to my passion for real estate. Since then, I’ve been working full-time in the industry, and it’s been an incredible experience. Each day presents new challenges, but I embrace them with the same strength and determination that have carried me through everything else.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has definitely not been smooth. Dealing with multiple health challenges from surviving two types of cancer has tested me both physically and emotionally. Each battle came with its own set of obstacles, but they also taught me a lot about perseverance and staying positive through adversity.
As for my transition into full-time real estate, it’s been a little bumpy. Shifting from part-time to fully committing to a new career after being laid off came with its own set of challenges, especially learning the ropes of the industry at a more intense pace. However, I’m fortunate to be surrounded by a successful team that has guided and supported me along the way. With their help, I’m finding my footing and growing in this new chapter.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
First and foremost, I am passionate about patient advocacy, particularly within the breast cancer community. My journey with cancer started in 2005 when I was diagnosed with stage four non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and then again in 2021 when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Through these experiences, I found a wonderful, supportive community of “Breasties,” and I’m driven to empower other breast cancer patients to advocate for themselves with their medical professionals. I also have a deep interest in learning about the science behind cancer cures. My involvement with the National Breast Cancer Coalition has been instrumental in this, and I’ve attended multiple trainings, most recently in Washington, D.C. Locally, I serve on the board of Thriving Beyond Breast Cancer, an organization founded by my dear friend Bess Gossage. Together, we share the passion to support and uplift the breast cancer community, and I’m incredibly proud of the work we do.
In my full-time career, I’m a real estate agent in Columbus, where I specialize in working with families and investors. My focus is on truly caring for my clients and making sure they are educated every step of the way. What sets me apart is my ability to connect with people on a deep, personal level, which has been shaped by my experiences as a cancer survivor and advocate. I am most proud of the relationships I build and the impact I have, both in my advocacy work and in helping families find their dream homes.
How do you think about luck?
I don’t really believe in luck, whether good or bad. I firmly believe that hard work is what shapes our lives and our futures. Anyone can create the future they dream about as long as they’re willing to take that first step and put in the effort. In both my personal life and business, I’ve found that success comes from perseverance, dedication, and being willing to face challenges head-on. It’s about showing up every day and pushing through, regardless of the circumstances. Whether it’s my real estate career or my advocacy work, I’ve seen firsthand how hard work pays off.
