Inspiring Conversations with Skyler Mouser of BE GREAT FITNESS LLC (BE GREAT GYM)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Skyler Mouser

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have always been a great athlete in the Columbus area. After taking sports more seriously in seventh grade and working out with my stepdad and trainer I immediately had the dream of owning my own gym one day. I love hard work, I love helping people, and I love growth, why wouldn’t I own a gym? Anything I say, I always speak into existence, If I say something I mean it, So the only thing left to do was figure out how to get a gym. It was the hard work that helped me see that being a part of a gym or working on yourself and being accountable is important regardless of the lifestyle you desire. I never realized how much effort and work it took to be successful whether that’s in sports or life until I started working on myself and working out. I would train all the time 24/7. That led me to work out at home with broomsticks, bricks, and my body. till I eventually started saving up to get my own equipment for my bedroom. I’ve always been very driven, focused, and creative. Those very personality traits led me to even go out of my way and build my own equipment, things like cable machines in my room and off of trees. Throughout high school, I played varsity from freshman to senior year. In sophomore year I was named a captain and led my once 0-10 football team, which historically has never been good to eventually beat the state champs, breaking all our school records and finishing our season 10-3. I was a great role model and leader all while maintaining a 3.9 GPA. Later on, I was blessed to graduate high school early with plenty of options, I had offers to play college football and was also signed to join the Marines. With so much going on and COVID-19 striking, my dreams of serving in our military were no longer available. So I went off to college football, till later realizing I loved football but always loved training for football much more. Seeing myself develop physically, emotionally, and spiritually, is what I truly loved. I loved being pushed as hard as possible. The growth and drive of who I could become if I worked my hardest were always most important to me. So I then left college football and came home, where I studied how to be a trainer, did internships, worked at numerous gyms, trained under some of the best people in the industry, and learned everything possible. After working hard, with no promises, training, and working warehouse jobs just to get by, staying up all hours of the night to figure things out, I eventually opened my own first gym at the age of 21. Now by no means was this easy I spent plenty of nights hungry, tired, lost, confused, and faced a lot of adversity throughout this entire journey, even a car accident where I was nearly projected through my window. this journey started as making $500 a month and barely paying my apartment rent for a long time, until one day striking some big deals where I made 30k+ just in 1 or 2 months and then had a jump in clients. Now despite all the obstacles since opening the gym on September 11th of 2023, I have had great success. I now recently gathered another building and expanded at the age of 22. I am blessed to say none of this would be possible without my community and all the people who have supported me. Shout out to the Groveport community, my family, the Columbus area, my mentors Isaiah Richmond, Charles Schultz, Nick Osborne, Mike Davies, and many more. With all the success I have had we have been able to help send over 50+ kids to play college sports, done tons of motivational speeches in the area and at schools, participated in 10+ nonprofit events for the youth, have traveled to Columbus doing training events with the local elementary schools, and did a giveaway of prizes after workouts, and we have proudly impacted our community. A lot of people call me insane/crazy because I am an extremist, I go above and beyond at anything I do, and I will not accept no, some call it crazy, I call it success.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I had many struggles along the way. many days not knowing what to do, where to go, and what would be next. I had all my dreams and what I thought my future would look like stripped away. I had things go wrong, seen a lot of bad, and had to withstand a lot of bad as well. I was in a very serious car accident. There were nights I couldn’t sleep, and was hungry, but despite all these doubts I always knew I had to push forward for not only myself but for my people, my dreams, and the gym.
