Today we’d like to introduce you to Mekka Don
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was a multi-sport student-athlete growing up but always had an interest in music. My brother and I started a band in High School and that was the true start of my music career. After accepting an academic scholarship to Ohio State, I was offered an opportunity to play football there as a “Preferred Walk-On”, which I accepted. I graduated from Ohio State in three years and moved to New York to pursue my passions in entertainment (music and acting) but also to attend law school at New York University.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has not been smooth at all. The biggest hurdle isn’t even the criticism or ridicule…it’s the constant need to overcome self-doubt.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As a Hip-Hop artist I believe the energy I bring to the craft is what makes me unique. I am most proud of the relationships I’ve built and the people I’ve inspired.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I’ve realized that many people didn’t know I was an actor as well. I’ve been in the Dave Chapelle Show, Cadillac Records, and several commercials.
