Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaitlyn Butler
Hi Kaitlyn, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I began my love of photography in high school. I took several classes on photography and graphic design. After graduating in 2016, I decided to pursue my hobby further. I did many free photo shoots to build my portfolio, focusing on dancers and seniors. I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Dance, and I could apply my experience and education with my photography of dancers. Year after year, I would get more people interested in my work such as families, couples, people with children, and even my first wedding. I have learned so much over the years, and I am so grateful for everyone who was up for my fun and crazy ideas along the way. I primarily now focus on dancers, seniors, families, and couples. I recently just moved to Toledo from Youngstown, so I had to do sort of a restart and rebrand. It’s been challenging, but also every rewarding with the new people I continue to meet. I am currently working with dancewear brands, creating a model team, and trying to get myself and aspiring kids more opportunities.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Overall, it’s been very smooth. The biggest transition was moving to Toledo, 3 hours away from my hometown. All of my clients I had are no longer easily accessible, so I am having to advertise and meet all new people. A lot of photography business, in my personal experience, is from word of mouth. I would say 85% of my clients came from other clients.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in dancers, seniors, families, and couples. My favorite to photograph is dancers, since I am a dancer myself. I am very proud of the uniqueness of my photos in the types of poses and candid styles that I do. I also take pride in my editing and the way my photos all look like they belong to me. Not every session is the same, and I treat them as such. But there is a reason people come to me for my style. So I don’t change it often. I am always up for new ideas and trends, though!
What are your plans for the future?
My plans are to continue to grow my business, work with more brands, and make more connections. I would love to be able to travel for photoshoots as well and collaborate with others.
